"Bowden, a three-star recruit, became the first men’s basketball player from Knox County to receive a scholarship at Tennessee as a freshman since Doug Roth (Karns High) in 1985."

That is absolutely stunning to me. With some of the teams Bearden, Fulton, and Austin-East have produced, I thought at least one other kid would have made it since then. Then again, something about Knoxville kids. Always seem undersized in all sports. Even the legendary soccer teams at Bearden and Farragut never seem to produce professional talent and rarely have 6 footers.

I just don’t get it. Why do that? Insanity

Perfection, he says. The guy is a machine. He's just wired differently, so we really can't understand him imo.

But he also said in his TED talk how he overcomes fear (what little he has): he practices and plans out every little thing in minute detail and practiced stretches of el cap over and over and over again until it was a very part of his nature. He had no questions or concerns along the route, he knew precisely what grip and foot position he needed every step of the way. He literally spent years practicing portions of the wall dozens of times each. BEAST

JJ Peterson already "banged up"...wtf

huh? link...

Can't just post something like that without a link. I didn't see it in the Fingers thread.

Edit: Found it--- David Ubben tweet:

DKJr and Eric Gray won't participate (I guess at all) in Spring practice.
Tyus Fields had a procedure done (I guess he's completely out this Spring, too?)
Akpo will miss the first few days.
Kurott Garland is out but expected to return soon.
JJP "banged up", nothing else said there.
Brandon Kennedy would be able to play a game today, per CJP. Said staff will be taking it slow and he'll be limited over the Spring.

From the Fingers thread:

From 247 HS evaluation of Gibbs:

I would love for this guy to become a star WR for us.

Was getting really excited about the 2nd quote until I realized it was from HS.

Still hope he redshirts and plays 2020/21 when he will be infinitely more needed at WR. Him at WR this year would feel like a wasted year.

JJ swimming mentally - Simonton. This is why they’ve said this. Little worried he may never get there

1 Spring practice in? He's basically a freshman. Maybe he won't be an instastar this year like all the kooks think every high 4 star will be, but with all his physical tools, it seems he has a good chance of making it eventually. With all the new LB talent, I'm a lot less worried.

Think they’ve been hearing this the entire time he’s been on campus along with coming in out of shape

I don't think we will ever, ever, ever have another basketball team as impressive as this one. Certainly they're good at BB. But they just seem to be a group of genuinely great guys. Story after story bears that out. Plus they seem like they'd be fun to be around. The coaches deserve some of the credit for that.

So is he just dumb or what? Why is he the only one consistently mentioned in this way?

Complete opinion, but you have to wonder about his work ethic and time management. First, with his college career on the line, he BARELY makes it in. Then he comes in completely out of shape...so the guy is incapable of balancing passing 1 exam with keeping in shape, which is basically his job at such point.

Just feels like he may be the anti-Dobbs right now. Seems like he needs some serious time managment and mental fortitude training.

Been rewatching games from last year and he definitely isn’t. A lot of guys didn’t know what they were doing at different times. Had to play them though because that’s the hand the staff was dealt. It takes some kids more time to learn. Let’s wait until spring is over and see if he’s taken strides.

He better figure it out, Toot arrives this summer and he'll hit the water like Micheal Phelps

I think I'll just go ahead and put him on the list of guys I don't expect anything from. Just too much bad news, and bad vibes...this just sucks.

The more one studies past classes, the less you expect from highly recruited guys. Nearly half will never do much (Gray, Byrd) or live up to expectation (DR, Kmac, infinite list). Hope to get the best recruits, then sit back and wait till they do something first.
