If Sherman thought that, then he was fighting for the wrong side. After all, the Union Army was fighting against Southern Secession. Kind of ironic, don’t you think?

I dunno. That 's a hard thing to discussion because I come from the camp who believes the EP kinda changed who was fighting for what, at least from a perception standpoint.

Islander Beach Resort.
That's pretty far north from where we have always stayed. We have stayed almost exclusively at the Southwind further south. You can drive on the beach up there whereas further south you can't.

There is not a ton of stuff to do at New Smyrna other than beach related stuff. Port Orange is only about 30 min away for go carts, batting cages, and miniature golf. The old city part of New Smyrna, (extreme north end) is fun to walk around. There are a lot of places to eat and shops and rental stuff. JB's fish camp has kayak rentals/tours and you can see manatees. Great restaurant too (See below)

My favorite places to eat:

Black Beards (Been there forever, fresh seafood, very casual, Raw Bar)

JB's fish camp (Way down south but on the beach side, take some bug repellent it is right between the ocean and the intercoastal WW., very casual, this is the place the locals eat, (Get the rock shrimp if they have them, broiled) You can't miss this place!

Norwood's is an old staple and a lot of locals eat there. If wine is your thing they have renowned wine collection and a tasting shop. It's a little more fancy but normal go-out-to-dinner beach attire is sufficient. It's a little more pricey. They have what they call a tree house that has tables you can dine in. Kids love that. It's really just a huge deck up in the trees that connects to the restaurant.

NSB Sea Shack is right across from Norwood's. It's a very casual, laid back, kid friendly place. If you like wood fired oven pizza, it's pretty dang good there. Their seafood is pretty good here too.

Boston's is one of my favorites. They have fresh New England fish flown in daily if I'm not mistaken. If you like fresh cod or haddock, you'll love this place. If you like fresh shrimp, it's hard to find a better place. They'll broil or fry about anything. If you like onion rings, make sure you get some here. They're the best I've ever had. Portions are pretty big here too. They also have fresh local seafood as well but I usually get the haddock or cod as it's hard to find that anywhere else. I usually order a combo of the shrimp and fish chunks (Haddock or cod). It used to be on the menu but I think they took it off. If so you can ask them and I bet they'll do it for you.

A place you may want to try for lunch is Chase's on the beach. I'm not sure how kid friendly it is though sop you may want to ask around before you go there. It's been a while since I've been there primarily we usually have a big group and it's not great for large parties. It is very casual though and right on the beach.

If you don't want seafood, you might try "The Garlic". It is very good and it's fun for the kids. It's among the trees and very cool atmosphere. It feels like your inside when your're actually just under the tree canopy. My wife and daughter love the place for the setting alone. It is very authentic style Italian.

New Smyrna Beach Steakhouse. It is a very good place if you want something other than seafood. Their steaks are really good and I can't say I've had a bad meal there. My group usually ends up there toward the end of the week when some tire of seafood (not me I could eat seafood everyday!)

We usually order pizza the day we arrive for dinner. We are typically tired from the drive and just want to settle in. We always order "Manny's beachside" They will deliver but it can be 1-2 hours sometime. As close to Manny's as you'll be, I would pick it up. It's very good pizza.

A place we usually hit once for lunch is a little diner called Pappas. It's almost exclusively locals. It's nothing fancy but for some reason we like it.

There's some other restaurants that I'm sure I've forgotten. When it get's closer to your trip, bump this or tag me and I'll see if I can remember anything else.

Have fun! We love it there. This will be the first year we haven't gone to New Smyrna in probably 25 years. As some of you know my mom is suffering from Alzheimer's and she's deteriorated to the point we don't think she could handle the trip. So we're going somewhere else this year - hard to go back at least this soon. :(

Just checking in to remind you all just how ridiculous “John Adams” really is.
Why are the vast majority of our local media representatives stupid, little crybaby trolls? About the only one off the top of my head that I can think of is worse than John Adams is John Pennington. Vince Ferrarra is right up there, too.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Just a gentle reminder that this basketball team has (hopefully) 11 more games to play. Rejoice in this great season up to this point. We often miss how great something is while it's happening. I encourage everyone to realize just how special this basketball team is!! GBO!!

Is this before or after the Charlottesville Police and the Virginia State Police allowed people to die that day?

I gave this an upvote but I will say in fairness to the Charlottesville PD, the average cop had no idea what was coming that day. They were overwhelmed and had to call in backup from other places. The biggest mistake they made was not asking for extra resources the moment they knew something was planned.

If you watched the new documentary on Michael Jackson on HBO you would never listen to him again. Sickening. Most disgusting thing I’ve seen in awhile. Scratch that... EVER

How's that? He gone. Ain't enriching him.

And idk what was going on in his mind, but I'd bet a ton of it stemmed from his shiz father. In fact the more you read and watch about addicts and other troubled individuals, shiz parenting or familial abuse is overwhelmingly the root.

Before we all condemn Sherman too much, let's not forget that his guides for his infamous march were mainly East, Tennesseans. And those men were not only unionists but had seen what the war had done to our area. Many had payback on their mind.

I heard something where his long-term gf committed suicide or something. That was probably the breaking point.

I was watching this:

Kind of shed some insight into how he approached acting-- he tried to really live inside the character's skin basically exclusively during filming-- which explains why he's actually a very good actor, but also a little "weird" now.

is this on Netflix right now? have wanted to watch this but i guess i've missed it on the streams

The Civil War is always a touchy subject. However, Lincoln wasn't the "savior of men" he is perceived to be in the history books.

@mrorange211 I had two college history professors who were utterly clueless. They just regurgitated what is written in the history books as fact, with a slight lean to the way they wanted history to be told. I am a Professional Engineer, does that mean that I know everything about Engineering? No it does not. I don't know jack about how to send a shuttle to outer space, but I do know how to build bridges. Some of the most ignorant people I have ever met are Professional Engineers, and in now way should they hold that title, yet they still do. I guess what I am saying is that just because you are a professional at something, doesn't mean you are good at it or know everything.

Lincoln was obviously dealt a hard card. And one cannot refute his impact toward consolidating the union. However, his tactics to achieve that consolidation are, more often than not, only shown in a positive light. I have read extensively on the Civil War, and it wasn't all good (Union) vs. evil (Confederacy) like it is so often portrayed. The Enrollment Act of 1863 (where everyone had to register for the draft unless you paid $300) and Sherman's march through Georgia are the first two acts that come to mind by Lincoln that I find any true historian finding a hard time to justify.

History taught in America is biased towards fitting a Nationalistic agenda. It always has. The civil war is portrayed with a Lincoln/Union tilt. We teach WWII and the genocide of Jews over and over and over, yet we don't discuss the any of the Genocides by the USSR, or the Cambodian Genocide after the Vietnam war, or the Belgian acts of Genocide in the Congo over rubber... The list goes on and on. We don't talk about how important the USSR was to capturing Germany. How the USSR used the same scorched earth tactic against Hitler as they did against Napoleon. If Hitler wasn't so arrogant and knew history, then we would probably all be speaking German. The reason why is because we (the US) were not the heroes in these stories. The way history is taught in America has always been centered around nationalism over fact. The Civil War is taught as good vs. evil, slavery vs. freedom, and that is an oversimplification used to promote that Nationalistic twist to history.

Little bit a rambling there, and obviously this the wrong platform for this, but I am fairly passionate about history and the way it is taught in our education systems. It's sad.
Good post I'm a big fan of history to. Ever listen to Dan Carlin's Hardcore History podcast?

Pretty sure I read it is a biased hit piece produced in conjunction with some of the folks going after his estate.

Apparently the FBI investigated him some crazy number, like 29 times and never found anything.

Not saying he didn’t do it, just heard that doc not very fair

I mean, it's basically 2 adults men telling their story. I know 1 of them originally said nothing happened in court to protect him.

As for the estate - Robson's case was already denied, so I don't see how that's relevant. He is also quite well off.

I just find it much more plausible they did not know how to handle what happened at their young ages. They are now, by their narrative, going through extreme psychological issues stemming from what happened. It is well known, and repeated by the parents, they stayed the night many, many times (at one point 30 nights in a row) and would sleep in his bed.

Back to music - anyone else go to music festivals? It is my wife and I's annual Summer vacation. Life just ain't complete if you haven't fully immersed yourself in a 3-4 day music festival.

I know he took some heat for it...and, in the context in which he was saying it, he absolutely deserved that heat...but, I understand exactly, and 💯 agree, with what Butch was saying whenever he said, "...what do we want from our media? This place, with the drama...sometimes the negativity is overwhelming".
