Gun control debate (merged)

Interesting. I think background checks are pretty stupid. As was stated earlier, those intent on murder will murder. A lot of these shootings have happened by people who have passed a background check. The intent of the 4473 form is clear, it’s a national registry.

True National registry has always been the roofie trying to be slipped into 2A's drink so the real $%^*#*^ start.

You're missing the point that the current laws are not being enforced so any new laws are not going to be any more effective.

Illinois already has extremely strict gun laws. The individual went through two background checks and neither one of them picked up on a felony conviction he had years prior. Seems to me the whole idea of universal background checks is becoming the left's immediate answer to everything. Just like banning "high capacity magazines."

I don't where you're getting the info that he passed two background checks. Everything I've read is that he passed the first but failed the second (concealed carry permit) due to a felony conviction of aggravated assault and was stripped of his FOID card so he could not legally own the .44 used in the massacre. I'm not missing the point about "current laws not being enforced", as I mentioned, there is no law on the books in Illinois that requires the police to confiscate firearms from convicted felons - the felon is supposed to relinquish the weapon which is absurd. And the whole "no new law will be effective" is the argument of a lazy and intellectually dishonest person who has no interest in addressing the issue of gun violence.

Link that he had his permit revoked please.

The NRA tweet failed to mention that he also failed a background check and was a convicted felon, their tweet made it sound like he was a citizen who had every right to own a gun which couldn't be further from the truth. If you don't find their tweet deceptive and disingenuous then you are in way too deep. In particular, the NRA used their tweet in defense of a politician calling for sensible gun laws; the implication being that there is no such thing as sensible gun restrictions. In the case of Illinois, legislation was introduced in 2016 requiring that police go to homes to search and seize weapons from someone that had their FOID Card revoked - this legislation did not pass. Isn't this a sensible law? It certainly may have prevented this maniac from killing five innocent people. You and I may be on different ends of the political spectrum but I think we can both agree that we want to keep guns out of the hands of people who have no business owning them - mental illness, convicted felons, etc.
I'm wondering why with this particular story it's the NRA, and not the "white Christian gun totters" like usual? I'll hang up and listen 😁

so is the "we need common sense gun laws" tripe.

are our drug laws "common sense"?
drunk driving?
murder?
anything?

we either have no common sense laws, as they are still all broken. so more will not fix.
or we have some common sense laws that still get ignored, so more will not fix.
or all our laws are common sense, and the problem is the people, and more laws will not fix stupid.

you can't get "common sense" from a group of people who have no clue what they are talking about.

Maybe it's a small correction but it appears he didn't actually have a carry permit revoked as it was during the carry permit application process that the prior felony was discovered. The FOID license was revoked.
Correct! Illinois blew two chances to discover this. At the FOID check and at the NICS check when buying the firearm.

Instead of penalizing more law abiding gun owners for government incompetence in doing their damn job how about holding the gov dumbasses accountable for a change?

Thank you.

Now, it still does not dismiss the point that criminals will ignore the law when it suits them as happened in this case. Again, I do not believe in the police going door to door doing confiscations. Such things, especially in this case, is on the State itself that didn't catch it the previous two times. Two opportunities they had to catch it and failed.

You just have to click the words of the tweet and it will open so the video plays. No more than 5 minutes in you hear David in an interview say he heard there was an active shooter at the school and jumped on his bike and rode 2 to 3 miles to go film the scene.
That was known a month after the shootings. The David bobblehead was caught with 2 different stories.
