I sit around two UGA grads and a Bama grad at work. When I saw the news on VN today I randomly bought up Ansley to see what they thought of him as a coach, knowing they would praise him but probably hadn’t hear the news yet. The Bama grad went on to talk about how great he was but he was coaching in the NFL now and that was his dream otherwise he’d still be at Bama and then one of the UGA grads said, “Nah, Kirby will hire him away from the NFL, just wait.” They then argued about whether he would come back to college and if he did, which of the two he would prefer. I finally stopped them and said, “Well, turns out he prefers UT over both your bum schools. Pruitt just hired him.”

I then walked off just like this:

I just read read through post after post of heated misery. I did that for one reason and one reason only.. to find a post that concerned UT hiring Ansley and that post would just make me grin from ear to ear.

And damn if I didn't just find that special post! Thank you sir.

Was looking at the transfer portal and noticed Tyrone Wheatley Jr. listed as a 6'6 280lb TE. That's a big TE. Kid should consider becoming an OT or switch to the DL.

He was brought in for his IMG connection....what prize recruit has he been on and landed? where was he on the list for recruiting on the staff?
Secondary recruiter for Eric Gray and Warren Burrell. I might add: Weinke was also the first coach mentioned, whenever Gray was talking about what brought him to Knoxville. Weinke also took over the recruitment of Maurer whenever Helton left; and speaking of his IMG connections, and what prize recruit he's landed from there, he was Primary recruiter for Chris Akporoghene. Need to do some learnin', man.

Also, AV has already said, WHEN we land Rogers from Michigan, Weinke will be who we can thank for it.

Also, to mention...Weinke was an Offensive Analyst at Bama before coming here; along with Osovet, I'm willing to say that he has a major input on the ENTIRE offense; does anyone truly believe that Pruitt brought him here just to coach RBs last year? Come on.

And lastly, @Bassmaster_Vol , I love you, man, and agree with you 9 out of 10 times; but, you are on the wrong side of this argument, my friend.

Hot take 1:

DK was a heat seeking missle at LB coming out of HS and looked like that as a true freshman in the SEC. Then, the injuries took over and he has never looked the same. He should join the lawsuit against Butch Jones.

Not sure this is really a hot take since everything you said is factual lol

I'm all for coaching upgrades, but going all in on great recruiters scares me a little only because I feel the actual coaching ability can sometimes get overlooked. It's a fine line getting guys that can both recruit and teach their position. Ansley seems like he can do both. Hopefully any other new hires will be similar. I just don't want to fall into the Butch trap of recruit players then never develop them.

Both all star recruiters added to this staff are elite position coaches. Win win
