leading by example is fine. and you have to do that too.He doesn't have to be the super alpha. He just has to inspire belief and get the right guys in line.
I think taking his licks last year behind our busted OL and still being productive went a long way in the "actions, not words" sense.
I like Banks at LB, I know it's a new position but I think his best traits (i.e. reckless physical play, motor, and leadership) fit LB better than RB, LB's a lot of times are the heart and soul of a defense and he's got an abundance of heart and the athleticism and power to really knock some heads, rush the passer on blitzes, and have coverage skills and turn into an outstanding LB. For the record I'm not saying that he can't be a great RB as well but honestly his ceiling at LB is much higher IMHOI hope that Roman Harrison and Crouch become the LL/AL in this class on the defensive side of the ball. Williams and Tank will help there also. And don’t forget about Banks. He’s a leader on that side of the ball (but hopefully moves back to RB).Our biggest offensive recruits though are kinda quiet guys. Wright, Morris, Keyton, and Gray aren’t the guys to get in other people’s face and demand excellence. Hopefully they’ll lead by example. But Newt’s right, we need JG to step up as the QB and lead this team.

but you're the QB. that position sets the tone. it's just a natural order of things in football, generally speaking. sure there are other players you can think of that are that kind of leader...Al Wilson was what for us. Ray Lewis....
long story short...we need a tone setter. i don't know we have one of those yet.
agreed. and while i would prefer JG be that guy, just because it's so natural on a football team, i am certainly not opposed to it coming from somewhere else on the roster. or if it's by committee.I don't disagree. I just think there's only so much leadership you can just 'assume' in your first full year as a starter, under a new staff, and particularly with the clusterf*** that was 2017. Leadership is built up in most cases. It takes a truly special human being to be the guy that commands respect from the get-go.
@SECMike on Twitter says that our 2015 recruiting class, which ranked #4 at the time nationally, doesnt even crack the TOP 50 after re-ranking once we knew how the class performed on the field.
Guys, I think CBJ maybe really wasnt that good at developing talent afterall.
Josh Dobbs covered up so much that was wrong with the program for 3 years.@SECMike on Twitter says that our 2015 recruiting class, which ranked #4 at the time nationally, doesnt even crack the TOP 50 after re-ranking once we knew how the class performed on the field.

eh. i don't think JG is a bad leader. he's just not that kind of alpha.
i don't know who is really on this team. not a ton of veterans coming back. i don't think JJ is that guy, though i'm sure some will look to him. Nigel Warrior could be that guy.
but the reality of it is, there's probaby some guys in this incoming class that are already better suited to be leaders than some of the guys already here. i like the chemistry of this class.
but it'll be interesting to see who steps up this off season.
i would like to think JG takes that step. it would be better if it was him.

Which is actually a very dumb way to view a QB room. The stats are pretty clear....recruiting sites have a very difficult time ranking high school QB's correctly. So why, as fans, would we anoint or disregard a QB on our roster based on a recruiting ranking?Same reason they skip Shrout I guess? Just 3 star guys.
I actually think JT will push JG this Spring & next.
