'19 TN ILB Christopher Russell (Texas A&M signee)

Probably not, but I don’t think this has been as good of a recruiting staff as advertised though.

I don’t know if too many 5-7 teams signing two 5* (assuming we get Wright), and the former #1 player in the country (Crouch).

Additionally, this staff has kept us in the race for a few prospects that should not have given us the time of day.

Let’s also remember we’ve been running with programs that have had infinitely more recent success than us (Clemson, Bama, UGA).

Maybe this staff doesn’t meet your unrealistic standards, but to say that they are “not as good as advertised” when it comes to recruiting isn’t objective. JMO.

This kid is someone who is nice to add late after misses. The only reason jumbo or Pruitt want him is because they have something available after ESD. If not ESD, then he’s not having coaches at his home day and night like he has. He would still be a backup as signing day approaches. We will be fine and he will be a good backup.

Anderson is only kid that should have any beef. Screw this russel douche and logue. Cry babies. Who cares when you are offered as long as you get it? Texas AM sure as heck didn't offer early. We don't need either of those 2 butch premadonna attitudes on this team. That is how we got where we are.
the narrative being pushed is really frustrating.

we offered Logue, what 2-3 days after UGA and because we were "late", we should be punished or something? gtfoh.

and again, NO ONE was pursuing Russell until thanksgiving, beause 4 SEC programs realized they needed a back up plan. he was committed to Memphis.

Williams simply wasn't the type of player we were looking for, and committed to Minnefreakingsota. that's not exactly where our bar is set.

but it sounds like, at least to some fans and some local media, the only thing that matters is placating any instate recruit that decides to manufacture a beef with the University of Tennessee for not recruiting them hard enough.

B.S. if any of those three wanted to really go to UT, they would have. period.

and the reason this state isn't like others is because the state is divided in to 3 different sections. and it's always been that way.

Memphis is closer to Ole Miss, MSU, Arkansas, Auburn, Bama, Vandy, Memphis and LSU than it is Knoxville.

Nashville is a transplant city and a large % of those kids we're recruiting now either didn't grow up here, or their families weren't even in the state when this program was at it's peak.

the university has to be the only one loyal in this relationship? really? how bout coming to camp when you're invited? how about coming on an OV when you're invited?

it takes two for there to be a relationship, and it's not all on UT as to why some of these kids didn't come.

now, i'm not naive either, i'm sure there's things that can be done by our staff to help. but at the end of the day, if you're a back up plan, i see no value in taking a kid's committment onlye to reneg on it later if something better comes along. in that light, there's no winning.

this whole narrative just pisses me off. news flash: not all TN HS players are good enough to go to TN. and not all HS players in TN give two craps about playing football in TN....we start winning again, make it a destination again, and that will change.

for now, this is the crap you just have to put up with.

While I’m happy to have all of the players you referenced, much of the work on them was done by Nieds. I didn’t say that Nieds was overrated; I wish we had 5 more of him on the staff. Everyone else, I just don’t see it as much, and being in the conversation on recruits doesn’t really move the needle for me if they don’t commit/sign. I think this staff needs upgrading in closing and organization. I gave Pruitt credit for recognizing that and bringing Tee in.

And as I’ve said again and again, I don’t handicap recruiting for a program resourced like ours for it’s record, when the same coaching staff was the one who led us to that record. You put your “JMO” in there, so that is my “JMO.” If my own unrealistic expectations cause me angst, that’s my own problem.

Recruiting in the State of Tennessee has 2 issues for Tennessee especially in mid-state.
1. There are 100 people moving to Nashville per day. Those people are not necessarily Tennessee fans.
2. Since we have not won recently, this growing population is not growing up as fans.

If you grow up a fan of as school, usually it is your dreams to go there. While some other school may offer you 1st, you will jump at that last minute offer from dream school.

If we dont get this Tenn kid, we are not his dream school.

another thing....pruitt making a statement that "the state of tennessee is giong to be our #1 priority" does not translate to "we'll take anyone from the state that wants to come here, for fear of it looking bad"

THESE KIDS DIDNT REALLY WANT TO COME HERE.

and we didn't recruit them hard because we thought there were better players available. which is what we should do.

where was all the crying and whining when williams committed to Minnesota? i don't recall a single entity or fan saying "Man Minnesota showing TN up on the trail, how'd we let him get away?" or when Russell committed to Memphis "man, Memphis is out recuriting TN, did you see they got the 900th ranked player over Tenneessee, good pick up for memphis, wtf is wrong with tn?"

lol.

what this boils down to is russell was really smart in not signing with memphis in December. it was a risk. but it's going to pay off for the kid. so instead of just moving down the road to mid town memphis, he's getting a free ride to college station.

i say good for him. buut don't play it like Tennessee screwed this up. there was nothing TO screw up. you want in, you got a spot. take it or leave it....when we decided he was a need, we recruited him. and we did all the things we do for anyone we recruit.

agendas and narratives for clicks. enjoy.

Don’t know if I can like this post enough. Well said. The agenda and false narrative being pushed by the usual suspects and drive-posters is laughably transparent.

Because Russell didn’t sign in December, he’s the prettiest ugly girl left at the dance for teams that missed on their primary targets. It’s a smart move on his part.

You don't know who Steve is? 😮

You don't have to have a great class to become good. You can have a good class and become good. I think you have to become good before you can become great. I think we need to become good before we can talk about becoming great.
