'19 TN ILB Christopher Russell (Texas A&M signee)

sooooooo whats the plan then? in state kid that is rated a 4* we take no matter what? as soon as they want to commit, we say yes?

there's no perfect scenario here. if the kid is good enough, and we want him, we'll take him. if not, we're going to look for the best players possible.

we won't get them all. and sometimes that means when we circle back around, they've found other homes.

sometimes we get who we want though.

this monday morning qb'ing the in state prospects is old.

if they were soooo good, they'd of already had committable offers from us....and a lo to of other schools.

the early singing period helps kids like this in some cases, as it gives them more options, late. chris russell wasn't on ANYONE's radar until after the ESD really. and now all the sudden he's a "gotta have him" prospect?

please.

Williams is committed to Minnesota.......has been for a minute.....MINNESOTA...not exactly who our bar is set against is it? and now, we suck cause we're "passing" on all this in state talent?

lol.

some of y'all are funny.
This^

Missing on in-state kids because we thought we could do better isn’t a good look though.
Take the in-state commit early, and then the better prospect wants in later on...

Now, what do you do? Keep the in-state and let the better prospect walk...or do you drop the in-state kid closer to signing day, who has been committed for awhile? THAT'S a far more terrible look; and in doing that, you may NEVER be allowed back in that HS, area again.

One thing that I hope we could all agree on...we ALWAYS have to be going after the best prospects. In-state, out of state...I don't care if they're from the moon. Always try and sign the best prospects, no matter what.

LOL. This kid was committed to Memphis up until a few months ago, and only really pursued by one SEC school until mid-December. Stop acting like he was a 5* from West Knoxville that this staff totally ignored.
Actually he camped this summer for Pruitt, and had a good camp, but no offer. Pruitt is goning have to realize he's not at these schools it's easy to recruit to. He's going to have to coach some kids up to win, or he's not going to make it.

It's funny how several guys in here wanted this kid, and now it's like oh well, we didnt want him anyway. We haven't even won the east in over 10 years, and during some of these times the east has been the worst it's been in a long time. Let's just hope Pruitt and his staff can coach kids up, or he will continue to get owned on the trail by Kirby, Saban, jimbo, etc.

Provocative.

Roman Harrison went to the same camps over the summer and received an offer. So if Russell and Harrison are side by side at these camps, and Roman gets an offer and Russell doesn’t, obviously they didn’t feel like he was good enough at that point.

The schools our in-state players are signing with are doing quite well and happy to take our kids. LSU, UGA, Clemson, Oklahoma, and what appears to be Texas A&M.

But “meh” don’t need them here.

I agree we should attempt going after the best player. You botch it when you whiff on the best and then whiff on the backup but NSD is next week so let’s see how it goes.

Smells like manufacturing drama to me. There is no explanation to why he wouldn't follow through with official visit. Everyday one of 3 teams has the lead supposedly. Just seems like he doesn't want the assumption he is a TN vol and probably wants to see just how much a priority he is to staff.

Either way I'm about done with instate drama outside of Memphis kids. Who the F would ever think that was the case? Was opposite before pruitt

to be fair with the Pruitt haters we did see this last year too. Swing for the fences while putting our number 2s on the back burner, only to have to settle for our 3s.

last year was the first year, so it makes some sense. this year not so much.

but I got to believe bringing Tee back, and some better/more wins will help us next year.

Can’t believe people are sad we missed on this guy
Get over it
Save the spot for next year
Staff didn’t drop the ball, maybe he wanted to go to A&M and leave the state for a few years

If the staff had offered Russell after he camped, these same people would have criticized CJP for settling. Then if he signed on ESD, there would have been no pub about other SEC schools offering him late and he would have been grouped in with the "Means" kid that we shouldn't have taken.

Funny how A&M offered after TN but they didn't slow play him.
