That old Princeton offense was death by a thousand backdoor screens..Catbone must have quit watching before the flagrant.
This was a typical playing up to upset top team at home deal. They were 28percent 3 pt shooters and hit nearly every one tonight. It was purely young talented players seeing a chance to make a name for themselves. It's the best way to motivate a young struggling team.
I will say this. The way drew recruits and if he gets a veteran team to stick around vs a bunch of one and dimes he could have a really good team. That offense scheme was hell on wheels to defend. It was giving me a headache just watching all the up and under screens on tv let alone a player trying to defend it. It gets frustrating jumping through screens several times a possession. First time I have seen his team play. I now see why young talented team is taking awhile to click. That's probably tough to get kids to buy into that vs street ball
He was a much better shooter at the beginning of the season. He really needs to work on his shot and dribble/drive game.I don't think he's confident in his shot. He's very hesitant. His intensity on defense though is why we get those leads at the beginning. Then he starts getting lapses and Barnes takes him out.

Kyle's one of those body types that just can't gain weight. Wish I had that problem. As athletic as he is you'd think he could get by some of these bigger/slower 3s and even 4s they seem content with letting guard him. But I feel like Bowden has stepped up, he was the 3rd leading scoring tonight and extremely efficient. Just wasn't getting the ball much, almost closed the game out twice on breakaway layups where he was mugged once and had a crazy block against him on the 2nd.
To their credit Vandy played a good game. And they had more bigs than I expected as well. We've got 2 or 3 guys who are true bigs and Walker rarely sees the court. Fulkie/Kyle are both small frames compared to the guys Vandy had, I wish Kyle had about 50% of the post game Grant does...man oh man.
So after a brief moment to calm my nerves...
Vanderbilt shot 50% from the field, UT shot 46.6%.
Vanderbilt shot 47.6% from the 3, UT shot 25%
Vanderbilt shot 61.9% from FT, UT shot 91.6%
Rebounds, Assist, Steals, etc. all close...what this game came down to was when it was crunch time Barnes & Grant forcing the issue and getting inside. Admiral shot 9 FGs, and 6 were misses from 3. He had a really bad game, and for some reason kept jacking up 3s, to be fair quite a few weren't bad shots and had some just rim out somehow. But he's far too talented to settle for those shots when he's bigger than his defender in most cases.
I think Pons has lost his starting spot...he's already a liability on the offensive side since he doesn't seem to want to shoot and hasn't shown the ability to take anyone off the dribble. But lately he's looked lost on defense too. I figure Bowden should be starting and Turner/Pons/Fulkie can come off the bench. I really wish JJ and Walker could earn minutes, but I guess they're just not producing in practice.
