Butch couldn’t manage talent and egos, and all of a sudden he’s going to be better at that as a position coach? At Bama!? The only way this works is with serious hand holding from Saban teaching him how actual accountability works.

Personally I hope Bama gives him all the responsibility he wants.
Fingers crossed he gets the OC job.

He wouldnt have to manage egos or talent as a position coach . Nor would he have to evaluate who to go after.

It's amazing what fans can spin positively and I'm clearly an expert on that topic. But there's a 4 page thread on Bama 247 discussing Butch Jones being on staff next fall as a position coach and most of the posters are excited about the possibility. They want him coaching WR's or TE's and the general consensus is that he's a very good coach but UT was the problem and now that he's a Bammer he's back to being a great coach.

I am starting to think the tides are starting to turn and the cycle is coming around where Bama will suck again soon and the mighty Vols will be back on top!

I hate him but he is a good hire as a position coach. I probably wouldn't want him coaching my WRs. Now I would want him coaching special teams. He was with RBs during games a lot so wonder if that is his spot for them

This board is going to hate it but this is
Correct. Butch would be huge upgrade running their special Teams

Also I'll remind this board that butch got a lot of credit for reportedly taking over the WR coaching here a few years back. It was widely accepted that he turned guys like Josh Malone around

I'm cautious about throwing dirt on the Saban/Bama dynasty at this juncture, but...

It's hard not to find that whole situation a bit perplexing. So much staff defection, and we've heard almost nothing about potential replacements.

CFB, like all amateur and professional athletics, is cyclical. It's impossible for a program to consistently achieve the level of success that Bama has had under Saban. But I think the biggest issues with that program is the lack of continuity with the staff, and the current crop of assistants, while good recruiters have not been very good coaches. Clemson beating the doors off Bama exposed a number of cracks in the foundation.

That said, a "dropoff" for Bama may be going 11-1 or 10-2 instead of 12-0. I don't think the wheels are going to fall off overnight.

Pruitt tried to keep Fulmer under control by putting up a big baby gate, but Fulmer's pretty slick.

My oldest daughter did this out of her crib when she was barely a year old. Threw her pillow pet down, said “Fall!,” and went for it. I’ve got a video somewhere.

To be honest with you, he might be a pretty good position coach. It’s running a program and given complete autonomy where he shows his true colors.

All I care about is us being one of those 1 or 2 losses for them.

We're back when we beat them. Until that happens we're still rebuilding imo.

Let's just be real about this....Butch Jones could cure cancer, bring peace to the Middle East, and solve world hunger and some people on this board would still hate his guts and claim he never did anything good.

Jones would be a good position coach at Bama and would probably be a fairly decent OC with that talent, but I don't think Saban will run that offense.

This is an honest question and not trying to rain on the Buck Fama parade because...Buck Fama...but how many of Saban's departures have left for better jobs? Obviously, Locksley and Pruitt got HC jobs, Tosh is going to the NFL...I don't have the full roster. But, I don't know if I see it yet as a program finally in disaster. We'd expect guys to leave for better job too.
I'm hoping I'm wrong because I want to see that program burn but I fear it'll just be next man up on the coaching tree.

In all his time coaching I don't think he has ever truly called plays which is a red flag if you want him as a play caller. Saban doesn't want that

Most of them are lateral jobs. Is DC at Bama not a better job than a position coach in the NFL? Not sure. But the OC position at Bama is wide open and both of Bama’s Oc’s left for other jobs. They took lateral moves when either could’ve been the OC there. That’s fishy.

If Butch cured cancer he’d spill the bottle on the way to deliver it.

But there’s literally nothing in his history to show that he’s a good coach at any level. The only thing I would say he’d be good at is special teams. That’s it.

Saban does have more competition for coaches than he used to with so many of his high profile assistants having head coaching jobs now. Pruitt, Kirby, Jimbo and even Muschamp all in the conference and going after a similar pool of candidates. Those are all fairly new SEC coaches who are seeing success and we haven't even seen the long term result of that yet. It could be a bit of a changing of the guard to the next generation. Slowly but surely.

He may have to develop some young coaching talent again. Doesn't seem too far fetched to think they could take a small step back. It's going to happen eventually. It may not show for another couple of years though.

I thought Bama brought Sark back in to OC?
Would guess Butch at WR coach.
DJ Durkin to DC/LB's?

They did bring Sark back just haven't announced. He is in interviews for assistants. Forgot about Durkin but based on backlash he got for even having him monitoring "janitorial" activities I don't think he will publicize him as a hire. Will try to keep him behind scenes as an analyst to assist with gameplanning and probably let Golding call plays
