Recruiting Forum Football Talk [RIP 9.3.2019]

I thought last night was pretty down the middle reffing. I say this mostly because of the travel calls

They were fair on the traveling by calling it both ways, albeit wrongly some of the time with both. They refused to call dragging the pivot foot or even changing the pivot foot. I saw Grant get away with that against UF. Last night they missed many of the back shoves under the boards and a couple of the flops were so bad. The one when Alexander made the move with the ball inside was a classic - the guy flops while Alexander turns the opposite direction away from him. Got the call. Knocked Turner down on the baseline with the ball, no call. One hits Williams in the neck somewhat like the call on Admiral (which was also a flop)- no Flagrant One.

The good thing is that it toughens them up and educates them on what they should do when they see it happening again.

Basketball Vols would have beaten KU with better outside shooting and unbiased officials. The only games that have even been contested were openly influenced by the officials to be that way. They are intentionally targeting Grant, Admiral and Kyle. At the same time we are having buys knocked down and arms grabbed - no calls. Arky was the master of the shove in the back under the boards and the flop all over the court last night.

I didn't see the Fulkerson flagrant against UF, and I actually don't agree that a hooking foul should be flagrant. I understand that it can be dangerous, but it's difficult sometimes to determine who is hooking who.

That said, it's typical that they didn't call the flagrant on the UF defender against Grant. The UF player grabbed his arm and pulled down, which can dislocate a shoulder. I have complained about the officiating for years in the SEC, and it's not getting better. It's so nice to have a team that is good enough to overcome it.

Per a VQ poster who works in AD... coach Kelly is leaving and has been pulled off the road recruiting today, should be official soon. Johnson is likely to go to LSU. Pruitt really likes Weinke, he doubts he leaves.

So that answers my question about rolling out Tee. CP I am sure already knew a couple more were leaving. So just a matter of time now before announcing Tee.

If you watch Witherspoon's game-winning drive last night against UF, I am pretty sure he takes 4 steps. It was quick, but I believe it was a travel. Oh well, at least they beat UF.

Agree. I forgot about Fulk's non-foul. I don't understand why the SEC office doesn't get what they are doing by not addressing it is undermining their own programs' potential success. It is so rare for it to happen in the ACC, B10, etc. They don't try to tear down their conferences' best teams. They let them battle it out on the court and the coaches know in advance what the officials are emphasizing. The elites are then ready at tourney time when the officials swallow the whistles more.

With Bama's talent it doesn't matter who's OC. Like Pruitt said.

Butch would look like a great coach, and some school would be picking him up after next year. But that school would soon enough see Butch for the real man he is - just some acne faced trumpet playing nerd named Lyle. SUCKERS!
Wrong....he was the coach here, and squandered that talent.

In this case I disagree. He was asked a question and he answered it. I guess he could've just said "that's over, I don't want to talk about it". But I also don't think it's unreasonable for him to just answer the question. It's the media that kept it going.
You given em a sound bite, they ll keep asking.

If Tee is on the road they’re going to have to make the hiring official pretty soon. Kids will post pictures of him in UT gear and if he has a contract it’s subject to FOIA

I didn't realize he was the guy for any of them. I don't remember hearing his name
I made the same mistake. Used recruits saying things like "I spent a lot of time with coach __" or " Coach _____ and I talk all the time". And it was basically never CW. Don't even remember recruits mentioning him in tweets.
And Hubbs or Price etc.. saying which coach was visiting a recruit. Again, rarely mentioned CW.

Somehow, apparently with neither the recruits or the recruiting gurus ever saying a word about him, he was connecting with these guys. Heck, one recruit even referenced him by "uhh, and that Weinke guy, hard to forget a name like that".
But if he's listed as the recruiter, I'll roll with it.

I'm sure the hiring is probably official if he's recruiting. Just because they haven't had a press conference doesn't mean the i's aren't crossed and the Tee's aren't dotted.

I am disappointed that Penny is winning. I expected him to be a bad game day coach but he's only lost once since playing us

Combined recorded of the 4 teams he beat is 23-43, all 4 are sub 500 right now. Every solid team he's played they've lost too...but I agree I'd rather see him losing more than winning, he's trying to stir up hype and help recruit by throwing shots at Barnes. Sadly with him being who he is he'll get plenty of chances to find air time.

I'm still saying Memphis & Penny gonna catch some NCAA sanctions at some point.
