Ha ha. He was offensive coordinator for a USC team that went 21-6 in 2016 and 2017 to finish #5 and #10 in the country. He was credited with developing Sam Darnold, a 4 star dual threat QB who wasn't recruited by the top tier programs, into the top traditional pro-style dropback passer prospect for the NFL draft in years. As a WR coach at USC he recruited and developed several guys who are doing very well in the NFL such as Robert Woods and Nelson Agholor. And while at Kentucky he coached Randall Cobb, who is like the #1 WR ever produced in the history of that program. And in 2016 he won the 247 Sports national recruiter of the year award.
A lot of USC fans bashed Martin's playcalling but those folks were delusional, thinking that USC had the same talent as they did during the Pete Carroll run. They didn't. The USC teams were nowhere near as good at tailback or OL. A lot of the playcalling that USC fans wanted required guys like Reggie Bush, Sam Baker, Ryan Kalil etc.
So claiming that Martin wouldn't be a credit to any staff as a recruiter and as a WR or QB coach is nuts. And yes, there are a lot of programs that have worse guys at offensive coordinator. Presuming that Pruitt will succeed at Tennessee, Chaney will coach out his remaining contract and retire in 5 years, and Martin will get the job at that time. But I can guarantee you that any of the "better qualified guys with better resumes" aren't actually. You are just lobbying volleys at a rival program, and at a QB who went 2-0 against UGA and won a national title in the process. So you'd trash the guy no matter what he has accomplished. Never mind that by actually winning a major bowl game against a top 10 opponent - Penn State who finished #7 - he has done something that no UGA offensive coordinator has accomplished since Herschel Walker. FSU was 9-5 in 2002, the Sugar Bowl foe in 2007 was Hawaii, and UGA lost the 2005 and 2018 Sugar Bowls to West Virginia and Texas. The UGA offensive coordinator in 2002 was Neil Callaway, who - you guessed it - was part of the bunch that Helton let go at USC. Compare Tee Martin's resume to that guy's. The 2007 OC: Mike Bobo. You know, the guy who had Todd Gurley, Nick Chubb and Sony Michel in the same backfield ... and won the Belk Bowl with it. Somehow they only scored 24 points againstGeorgia Tech that year. In a game that went overtime.
