Rumor....Auburn's possible interest in Vols WR Coach David Johnson

Based on What? Who has Johnson developed that is better than any of the multiple receivers Tee put in the league from USC?

How may first round draft picks has Johnson developed?

This is just crazy talk!!!
He didn't beg for a job so people forget his whole coaching career somehow.

CDJ is great. But he hasn't produced like Tee. Juju, Lee, Agholor, Woods, Cobb and others.

Rumor has been that CDJ has been shopping his name around which is disappointing and concerning because he has been the best position coach on staff this year.

I like Dabo’s approach. If he doesn’t want to be here, let him seek other opportunities. Not sure how stable Gus Malzahn’s job security is. Maybe he’s chasing money.. Who knows.

Tee has a much better resume and has recruited far better players than DJ. He is a good coach but hardly a bug loss for us. No offense I hope we keep him but Tee is a huge upgrade to DJ!

Well, we will just have to disagree. DJ was the lead recruiter for Ramel Keyton, Eri Gray, and Melvin McBride in this class, so he is no slouch at recruiting.

this is a mutual decision from both sides (CDJ and CJP). CJP giving him an opportunity to move on his own. CJP not impressed with his recruiting.

So then is there any truth behind the Tee talk?

If we go with the saying that success is predicated on 80% talent and 20% coaching then you go with the better recruiter. I'm sure Pruitt probably thinks he can land Martin and that gives us another elite recruiter on staff. Possibly have to put an additional title and slide him some additional cash but I think Fulmer and Pruitt can land him.

I like Johnson but I don't think Martin is a huge step down as a position coach honestly. Even if he is I don't think it matters if Martin brings superior talent.

You must know something these two coaches have discussed. Right? If they've got some sort of agreement in the works, then where does CJC's imput come into play? Does HE have another receivers' coach in mind? It's odd that Chaney's name's not been brought up in this thread at all, as we've gotta' figure such a change should've been mentioned between him and CJP beforehand. At this juncture, I think I'll just believe there's no weight to this whole story.

I don't understand the venom for Tee.
He is considered by anyone in the business as an elite wr coach and an elite recruiter. Maybe he wasn't an elite coordinator, but that's irrelevant in this scenario. He would bring a nice pipeline to the west coast athletes (if anyone remembers, we used to recruit the west coast big-time, but really got away from that). And as some of the other posters have pointed out, look at all of his guys in the league. Tee has more cred than many of you realize.
I would welcome Tee back with open arms. When was last time we had someone on staff that won a Natty at UT?
Come on people, wake up! Get out of this damn notion that he's not good enough. The guy is elite and is recognized as such. And rightfully so.

(Edit: deleted linked post, as it wasn't one of the loony ones)

Good Lord, people. (Not particularly aimed at the above post; it was just the most useful to link to.)

Whatever your current job is (unless you're maybe the owner of your own business), don't you hope to advance? Do you work for a company that is large enough to have a ton of openings and paths for advancement? If not, you have to investigate job openings at other firms. It doesn't mean you're unhappy, or disloyal, or some other horrendous attribute.

--Unless, of course, you are content with being a wide receivers coach or the equivalent for the rest of your career.

This country is way past people staying in one position at one business for 45 years and then retiring. The same is true for sports.

So who is Pruitt/Chaney making room for? any wee little hints tossed around at your last outing on the greens? :D

Not sure what your point has to do with the statement you quoted, but ok.

Tee would be nice to have, but frankly, I don't want to lose David Johnson. He's one of the best at developing WRs in the country. I also think Johnson is more likely to stick around long-term than Tee, who might take an OC job in 2020.

Johnson made the entire Memphis WR corps great, including a walk-on named Anthony Miller.

He's one of the better actual position coaches.
