Monopoly man doesn't have a monocle?
False memories, different reasons
Monopoly and Mr. Peanut commercials were popular. Both had top hats, 1 had a monocle.

Mandela, false news report but anyone impacted heavily, the memory remained.

Skits often get movie quotes wrong and we remember the skit better because of laughing, than a single movie line.

And as @nicksjuzunk pointed out @Catbone @Smokey123 @HankHill want to prove others wrong so badly, they're touting a Gator's success.. and wrongfully at that.
The argument was Mullen was a good coach but would never recruit great at TN. And we would eventually need that for a CHAMPIONSHIP.
Not that he was a bad coach or couldn't get 11th at freaking Florida.

Would love to get some OC news today.

He was Currie’s first choice and Florida’s third (or second FALLBACK). They fired their HC before we did Butch but really had no head start. They started full court pressing Chip Kelly the same time Currie was approaching Gruden, Mullen, Schiano et al. Which is odd because Kelly had no team to get permission...unless ESPN counts. Time frame boils down to we offered Mullen the job and he WAITED for the Gators to get jilted by two candidates and then jilted us. Currie thought we’d buy Schiano and and had no plan C.
I think Schiano was plan B. Thus JC was chilling in Bahamas, cause he knew he had Schiano locked up.

The argument was Mullen was a good coach but would never recruit top 5 ish at TN. And we would eventually need that for a CHAMPIONSHIP.

Not exactly the argument but whatever. A lot of the Knocks against him and still are that he was a “dweeb or a dork”. Which is irrelevant. If he was more southern and rigid like Pruitt the narrative would probably be different.

OK, so you're running a business, and you hire a guy on a multi-year contract for a good salary. Shortly thereafter, he wants to interview for other jobs.

You've got a business to run, and you need to know -- is he gonna do his job, or leave for a different one? You can't afford to wait around while he interviews and takes his time deciding. You've got external business relationships to build and maintain, and people need to know that they can rely on those. So if you can block his interviews and force him to decide now, you have to do that. Kingsbury's putting Swan in a box where he's got no choice.

If Swan hadn't tried to block the interviews, or get Kingsbury to decide now, he wouldn't have been doing his job.
Pretty sure USCw will have hired Kingsbury's replacement before us. I see an announcement a week from Monday.

I wonder. Butch’s goofiness was a constant theme and 3 straight bowl wins didn’t dent it. IF Mullen had managed 10 wins here, same parties would have embraced comfortable “narratives”. VN thing.

That was only part and still is.
A very small part
"Dorkiness" receives less patience at UT than Fl. Just reality.

I’m under the impression that we’re never going to be consistently in the top 5 in recruiting the way CFB is right now. We may get a class here and there be we will consistently be between 8-15 no matter who the coach is. That is why i preferred someone who schemes outside the box like leach, Mullen, Gundy etc. i think it’s the quicker path to success here. I am encouraged by Pruitt seeming to want to go that way with his recent OC attempts in freeze and yurcich.

Our boosters have always had the Good ol boy feel and still do. And we have to recruit to the tough, hard-nosed angle because we're selling vision, not the party, sunshine state.

"Dorkiness" receives less patience and less well received at UT than Fl. Just reality no matter how much you guys want it not to be.
TBF though, everybody’s quirks and/or flaws get less patience if they aren’t winning. How much patience will Pruitt get for the ways he does things if we go 5-7 again next year and the offense doesn’t make some sort of modest improvement?

So basically you think Mullen would’ve gotten a shorter leash despite his vastly better proven track record as a head coach basically Bc he has a different accent and personality than Pruitt?
