Weren’t great with Lassic or Williams. Weren’t great before he arrived.
either way. didn't say emmet was bad. but he definitely benefited from a great O line.

feel like dropping some rob bass....... "it takes two to make things go right"....lol. point being it wasn't like the marquis read: "Emmet Smith...and the dallas cowboys"

GOT US A HOT TAKE OVER HERE!

Take it as honest. Hated those Cowboys teams. Didn’t totally detest Emmitt but as a Bear fan and Payton worshipper, I didn’t want him breaking that record. Especially with the style points of him unabashedly pursuing it. Sanders would have undoubtedly broken it and put it out of reach if he wasn’t so anti-everything. Going out of his way to be so imo. Truth is, that Cowboys line was great as a unit...blocking for Emmitt. Everything’s fed off of that. Aikman and Irvin make the HOF in most scenarios sans hardware. If you shut Emmitt Smith down you could beat the Cowboys in those years. You didn’t beat the Cowboys in those years.

Sadly that article points out the biggest issue. He struggled against good Ds and the stats that got him that 4th ranking were put up against weak Ds.

We really can’t afford to hire a guy that can’t out coach strong defense. I don’t care if he can score 200 points against the little sisters of the poor. If he can’t manage more than 10pts against Bama or UGA then it’s very unlikely we will beat them.

And the other offenses only play against good defenses? This is the NFL. They all play pretty much against the same caliber schedule.

Live all these years thinking it was spelled EMMET? 😉 Thanks for conceding that he wasn’t bad. That OL wouldn’t have been noteworthy without Emmitt. Jimmy Johnson wouldn’t have been considered a genius if James Francis had slipped to him. Instead he traded up and got the second best back on the board after Blair Thomas and the rest is history.

Ticket prices are ridiculous anyway for a family of 4 to watch a game at Neyland you’ll be laying grand. Then it’s an all day event. Why do that when you can have friends over and play 100$ for all the pizza and beer you can drink and watch other games too?

Not to mention the two teams and a lot of their fans are in the southeast and the game is in NorCal. That’s one hell of an expensive trip.

emmet, emmit, who cares. :) i'd love to say he sucked, but even i can't get myself to go there. so like i said, Payton is the best i've ever seen. Emmet, with an e, is #2. i just don't think emmet is the HOF'er he turned out to be w/out the rest of that offense around him.

that doesn't mean he's not great. but let's be honest....it's not a stretch to say that great TEAMS are made up of great PLAYERS.

take that O line away, take the WR's and Troy away....is Emmet even in this discussion? no way to know, but imo, he's not. Payton on the other hand...special on his own, and did it on some not so good Bears teams for a farily long time.

Sitting in JFK, but have free WIFI which is nice. I don’t expect you clowns to have the OC hire wrapped up before I land but try not to destroy anything while I’m gone.

PB&J on the counter.

I assume you are looking forward to getting back to the land of smiles. That flight to get there, though, is a killer. Hope you are flying business class.

The one year moss played with a hall of fame caliber QB he had the best year I’ve ever seen. Close call tho. I don’t think anyone else even has an argument with those two
Year. Best EVER requires more. And I’d counter that the TD record that Moss beat (barely) in 16 games where Belichick was playing his starters full games after they’d clinched long before, all in the pursuit of an undefeated season and Brady’s record as well? Rice set that record in 12 games due to the strike...sobering.
