There is certainly chatter that that Pruitt has interest in talking to former Atlanta Falcon offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian. Sarkisian is now available after being fired on Monday. There are rumblings that Sarkisian would like to remain in the NFL if he can. But he doesn’t have a lot of deep ties in the NFL so staying in that league might be a challenge.
One college name that is generating some chatter is former Maryland interim head coach Matt Canada. Canada remains on staff at Maryland at this time.
Canada was the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator at LSU in 2017. We are hearing that Canada is a guy Pruitt may talk to.
Jim Bob Cooter was let go in Detriot on Tuesday, but look for him to stay in the NFL. Cooter and Adam Gase know each other well and the former Vol GA could land with the now ex-Dolphins coach.
Nothing is official with Mike Yurcich at this point, but he is expected to join the Ohio State staff in the coming days.
As for the Jim Chaney chatter, it does continue to float out there. Chaney has some close friends in Knoxville and those friends have certainly tried to get Chaney to come back. I don’t believe Chaney is coaching without a contract tonight. And I don’t think Georgia is wanting to run him off. It’s no secret that Chaney loves East Tennessee and plans to retire in the area. Most everyone we talk to believes that Chaney would have a difficult time making a move without Bulldog offensive line coach Sam Pittman.
