Shrout has shown flashes in practice too. Got several “Atta boys” from staff. Think it’s just a matter of time before he takes the reigns.

His footwork has improved, night and day over when he arrived on campus. His arm is live and he has a very quick release.

It would NOT shock me at all, if he won the job this spring.

Wish Pruitt would have put him in late in a couple of games. Would liked to have seen him in live action. Maybe Pruitt didn’t want a “controversy”?

I've seen him throw and thought he looked really good. He seems to move well and make quick decisions. It's very curious that Pruitt didn't give him any PT. Plenty of opportunities to put him in and see what he could do while keeping his RS. I wonder if any controversy was more between Pruitt and Helton than the QBs?

All D1 QB’s look great when they have time to throw. It’s a baseline expectation at this level, kind of like a bank teller knowing how to execute a deposit.

Does the QB recognize coverage and get the offense into a better set? Can he throw to the empty space the blitzer vacates? Can he move in the pocket when protection breaks down? Does he throw it away rather than taking a 10 yard sack?

JG is an unmitigated dumpster fire when it comes to these things.

If it’s really about coaching then Trevor Lawrence wouldn’t be light years ahead of JG as a Frosh.
Why are you on VN, Chryst?

If he feels he’s losing his spot, I think he’s gone. Hope he wins it and improves and he and us have much success.
I hope Shrout is the next Aaron Rodgers but none of us have ever seen him play a down of college football. The last time he played football he threw about 35 interceptions. I'm not sure where the confidence is coming from that he'll unseat JG. I think it's much more likely if we get a guy like Fields or Francois. I mean, if Fields comes then yes JG is gone.

He has the best arm of our QBs, and that’s just not based on velocity. His accuracy and touch is good as well.

He threw a 30 yard floater in the end zone to Calloway during one of the practices and it was beautiful. Like it dropped from the heavens lol.

He’s really worked on his footwork too.

Think Pruitt really wants JG to be successful. But with a new OC coming in and hopefully he has Full reign on the offense, then he will have some input on starting QB?

25. Every time K-Town posts, it goes up 10. 😉

Sorry for the length of the post in advance, but some on here don't get what it takes to get what they want and we can knock a lot of that out if they choose to read.

No program succeeds at a high level without a competent QB for that level - good or elite. You can get to that 9-10 win mark with good QB play along with good to even elite level talent around him, but you will not get to elite as a team. That's the situation with JG. He cannot lift the team on his shoulders and will them to win. He needs strong talent around him to perform at a good level. So the only question is whether it is worth another year delaying Shrout or Mauer while JG learns yet another offensive scheme before he leaves UT for good. Maybe he chooses a different path on his own - we will see.

Bama got to elite with exceptional talent around the good QB until Tua came along. But it was because nobody had their level of roster talent. Now they have both. Clemson was the next to get there with the elite talent upgrade around just a good QB until - Watson came along to complete the package. UGA is working on the same concept. With the roster talent upgrade, they will soon learn if Fromm can step up to elite. We know he is very good. But there are already two programs that are fully elite ahead of them. So they have more work to do to prove it up.

That didn't exist when Bama first started dominating. Bama and Clemson have now separated themselves with UGA trying to join in. Dabo was laughed at for years for never being able to win big games. Who's laughing now? CJP knows all this and IMO, this is why he is being so careful with his OC hire. He knows the elite QB arrives on campus in 2020 and he needs an OC who will stay here that he can trust who will develop Bailey and the O to elite. By then the talent upgrade around him will be well underway to nearly completed.

As fans we want a 2 year turnaround when even with elite coaches it takes 3+ to get to the potential playoff level. I see this being a 4-6 year deal for CJP because he has to get there as a HC along with getting his staff/system ingrained into the program's DNA. He was delayed a year on O due to Helton. The rest is well underway and the roster is getting seriously upgraded. As fans - stay the course - grind - strain. No more hot sauce needed.
Good post! As fans we decide what we want and think we should get it now. I think Pruitt and Fulmer have a plan in place to reach a goal that is long term.

Not quite sure what would give you the inclination that he burned a bridge. I can assure you that type of character would have never have made it pass admissions board st Cal. Wharton respectively declined. Also people sometimes come from other schools and participate at neighboring schools pro day. Why would they exclude their 9th all time best wr. Now that wouldn't make sense. They also had their SR running back break his collarbone in the 1st quarter of that meaningless bowl game. Personally I don't understand why any college players play in these pointless bowl games. If it's not fo National Championship then why are we playing.
Burning the bridge and Pro Day were questions to you since you seem connected to him somehow. I just thought it was odd that he was a no show and was removed from the roster etc. It could work both ways, participate in the bowl game and ball out to make an impression. Right?

Butch Jones Peter Principled at Cincy. Any job higher in the pecking order than that would lead to failure for him.
