Holgerson makes a little less than 4 million. I guess if he just wants to take the same salary and reset his clock. But I don’t think Houston will be able to pay the same for his staff. They could bump Briles because Applewhite wasn’t making that much. Houston may have top G5 money but still won’t offer what any P5 school can.
I think that’s a pretty fair statement but do think they were willing to wade into those waters to keep Herman and probably would have stood a decent chance if they were competing with a program not named Texas. Stars may never align like that to where they’re willing to step up to that level again though.

Literally every intelligent person alive agrees that for a host of different reasons, those two classes were overrated
Yes it ended up being average. At the time it was top 5 and beat out multiple elite programs and elite coaches for players. We had no S&C for half of the 2015 classes time here lol

You really think Williams, McKenzie, Phillips, DK, ect woulda been bad under Saban and Cochran?

A coach’s salary alone is not the determining factor alone, especially if you have been a coach already making millions. Resources, staff salary, administrative support, etc. Just because Houston can match a 3 million dollar salary, I doubt they can pay both coordinators $750k+, along with strength staff, analysts, administrative staffs along with millions in facilities. I am sure that Houston has some huge donors, but the tv money is a wide gap.

You can’t even compete for a playoff spot at this point, too, so that’s a turn off for most coaches.

Because they were underdeveloped and injured.

If his classes were so bad how did have 9 wins in back to back seasons and compete with bama at bama with terrible recruiting classes? Must be dang good at coaching em up, huh?

That’s my favorite. It goes from “any real coach could’ve won the east for two years with that roster” then it turns into “Butch was a used car salesman who couldn’t recruit and that’s why our roster sucks”

I don't have a problem with the TALENT on the roster. I have a huge problem with the mental toughness on the roster.

You think our roster is good?
No but i think it’s better than getting embarrassed in all but one game we lost. If our roster was as horrid as people make it out to be we wouldn’t have been able to be on the same field as auburn. They showed that in their bowl game.

It’s not hard to see that Butch did recruit a handful of good players in 2014 and 2015. No doubt. It’s also clear to see that many of the players he recruited weren’t good. Both the VQ guys and Callahan have said that a lot of butch’s recruits are like Arkansas’ recruits this year, they were 4 stars, but the top schools were not our competition for them.

It’s also clear to see that after 2015, recruiting dropped off significantly. The 2016-17 classes were horrible and that’s why we are where we are.

Yup. Gotta go through mental hurdles to make him seem as bad as possible.

If he was the worst coach in SEC history (like Bass says) and also an awful recruiter, he wouldn’t have sniffed 9 wins lol.

Jmo, I think he was a good recruiter and OK coach who made some key mistakes that cost him and he just can’t handle the pressure of a job like TN. Belongs somewhere like Maryland, Kansas, Vandy, UK, ect.

That’s funny because Hubbs was once asked who the better recruiter was Butch or Kiffin and he said Butch
