The difference in you and me is I realised a while back that this class was gonna pretty much be what it is, so I had already made peace with it. I figured..IF...we landed some big fish that would be great and I would be happy, but after the past 15 years of getting kicked in the nads on signing day..I just wasn't buying it this time.

See..now I don't feel like I suffered a huge let down and I actually appreciate this class...

Wish I had your discipline. I'm too much of a homer though. I buy into the elite recruiter, amazing facilities, instant playing time, and eat up the post visit interviews etc. I just get caught up in the what if's. And yeah, it frustrates me.

It'll pass. Its already subsiding, actually. I do like our class overall and I believe our staff will milk every ounce of talent out of them all.

My only complaint is that they slow played Brown, and Means will have to be pretty good to make doing that worth it.

Mine is Anderson. Huge position of need for us and he went to the uscjr which my hatred for is beyond measure. Plus I am legit concerned with our linebacker recruiting. Unit needs an overhaul over what took the field last year. Not sure what we're doing there, and it suddenly becomes code red if Lakia flips.

I think you may be right.

That's something Pruitt and his staff are going to have to look into. I understand how hard these decisions can possibly be. You have your top 5 guys at a position, and #4 or #5 want to commit, but you're still sitting in good, ok, maybe(?) shape with #1 thru #3, and you're looking at the numbers...tough decisions.

I hate that we lost out on Anderson; but, what are you to do, if you strongly feel you have a good chance of flipping a Norton or Eboigbe, you know.

Still very happy with our class so far; planning to be moreso in Feb. Now, if Wright, Crouch, and Gray get away...my feeling will change.
i think that's what they have to get better at. and while i admire the effort for going after a bunch of players committed elsewhere, it's not a reliable strategy to implement regularly.

there's something missing on the front end of the recruitment of those types of guys (some of which may not be able to be fixed until we show more/better results on the field mind you) that needs to be fixed. and they have to get better on judging when to move on. there were other DL and WR out there that we could have put more work in to, and didn't.

they did the exact opposite on DB though. they cast a pretty wide net, and worked the list. and wound up with a really good class when it's all said and done. with OL, i think getting lampley was probably pretty easy lol. but they zeroed in on the 2 they wanted and didn't let up. they were able to fill needs with CA and MM, and had some lee way considering the work already done on Wright and Morris.

don't feel like they followed either of those paths on DL or LB.

Yeah I feel like he has a high ceiling but a huge question mark overall. Would like to see a great recruiter come in if he's promoted because we would still have an opening for another coach right?

Only if somebody else leave ie Weinke or whoever.
Could and would bring on another intern or however you define that role

Simmons and Williams are going to be beasts...period. Rankings be damned.

I never thought Anderson would be a Vol. He did exactly what I thought he would.

Yet at the time, post visit, you yourself believed many of them to be Vols.

I agree many/most of them would've been huge upsets. I personally never believed guys like Cain were coming here. But like I said in another thread, when you wake up at 430am and you log in to see AV (who is normally very reliable) calling his shot and saying this guy and that guy are Vols.... coupled with Hubbs "watching closely" or Simonton's "secret recruit" comments on the same guys... and then we whiff on both, you can't understand why someone would be disappointed?

If you're pissy with my take on today, I don't know what to tell you. I don't think I've been throwing a tantrum and declaring this class a failure or calling for heads.

But I am disappointed with how today turned out.

Here's the thing, I've said it before and I'll say it again...take everything with a grain of salt, stuff from AV, Hubbs, Callahan, everyone. Enjoy the show and realize recruiting is fluid, things change DAILY in this game. Sure, you can be upset but that's a YOU problem. That's not on AV, Hubbs or me. YOU allowed yourself to get upset today. Not the recruits, the reporters or the insiders fault. I'm not upset because I enjoy the ride and know things change all the time in recruiting. I enjoy the ups and downs, happens to every team and every fanbase. We are not unique in that sense even if we think we are.

Am I bummed that we didn't sign Figueroa and Eboigbe? Sure I am a little but they weren't on the commitment list so I knew they were long shots and I remember we still have Wright, Gray and Crouch and others to finish off the class.

"Probably one of the most important thing this recruiting cycle are your current players. ... Our team did a fantastic job selling our vision. I can't say enough about the guys on our football team." ... Pruitt noted that even a few seniors stuck around to help recruit last weekend.
-Simonton

Pruitt said we're done for the day at 17 signees.

SIAP, but how does everyone feel we have done with DL and LB recruiting? Obviously, Crouch would be huge for LB, and we have 4 DL in the class thus far, but do we have quality players coming in? Or did we whiff on those positions?

It seems to me that DL was every bit a position of need as the OL was, with all the players leaving after this past season.

The thing that is frustrating to me about today is that it felt like we were still working from behind the 8 ball. We were making all these late pushes for big-time players that came up short, just like last year. Last year that was understandable with a new staff scrambling to get things in order for ESD. This year we should not have been in that position. We also struck out at WR (Keyton is big time obviously, but I'm talking Haselwood, Brown, Ellis, Payton) and end up taking a much lower rated guy who, aside from us, was considering Rutgets, UConn, and Kansas. It just feels like the staff badly mismanaged WR recruiting outside of RK. And I have a hard time getting past our DE recruiting. We whiffed on several in-state guys (Anderson, Norton, Logue, Cormantae Hamilton). Then today we whiffed on Eboige and Figueroa. I know Middleton will be in play there, and some say S. Brown could end up at DE (though I'm not really buying that). Maybe Harrison? I just would have felt a lot better about that group with at least one big-time pure DE from the high school ranks. It feels to me that recruiting for this position was also mismanaged, especially passing on Anderson early and then trying to come back around to him late.

I wasn't blaming anyone else. I was explaining why I felt frustrated with today. This really shouldn't be that hard to grasp. It is possible to enjoy recruiting, yet still get disappointed when we don't land players. Expressing frustration on a random internet message board isn't a bad thing either. Maybe save the lecture?

Does anyone know why Harris and Cox didn't sign today? Cox rearrirmed his commitment to TN a few days ago. We know why on Henry. Some have said Cox might not be part of the class. Did the TN staff tell Cox not to sign today?

No, I wasn't. I was pointing out the irony of how he was claiming all these guys were longshots and no reason to be disappointed about not getting them, when in many of their recruit threads he was posting his belief that they would be Vols. Kind of talking out of two sides of the mouth there,

Thanks for weighing in, dickdodge.
