Tennessee has offered the most recruits in the country

Not to say that the coaches have it all figured out or not, but I trust that they know what they need to make the program successful in terms of weaknesses and strengths. We may be missing out on some in-state prospects, but I estimate that those decisions are based more on the interest that the recruits show in our program and who we really think that we can land of those prospects. Maybe we are missing on those guys because they have their eyes on other programs, or maybe they are not attainable or don't fit our needs if they are available. Just thoughts, no real substantiating evidence.
well there were a few high profile recruits in TN that the staff wanted to come and camp. Wilhoite, Washington, Knox, and i think one other.

the only one that actually came was Knox.

so to your point, it's easy to just pass judgement when you see Wilhoite commit to oregon or washington to OU, Knox to ARK....but for a realtionship to exist, it has to exist on both ends. and if you didn't want to camp with this staff, then do you really want to come to UT anyway?

some said that it was stupid to make those guys camp for an offer, given their star rating. but again, there's purpose behind it, and if you as a coach aren't sure, why wouldn't you get all the information before you offer? that's what Jones was famous for. 4* kid from TN? offer him.

so, i get it, some folks get riled cause they see the defections from the state. i'll just say there's more to it than Pruitt missing on in state kids and leave it at that.

I suppose the list kinda makes sense. Alot of the schools with new coaches have more offers and not many teams in Top 25 are in the top 20 on list of offers. Bama, UGA, etc are taking slices out of upper tier, whereas schools like UT make those upper tier offers, but have to cover their bases with alternative plans.

Maybe, less offers means you believe you're getting the ones you want and don't have to offer more. Whereas, more offers could mean you're less certain of who you will get and thus have to seek more people in your search. ;) I think it shows the state of your program in some respects. We obviously need lots of help.

That makes sense to me. It seems the staff are more concerned with getting the talent that we need rather than star gazing. I like to see a shiny 4 or 5 start recruit committed as much as the next guy, but I don't like seeing talented players taking up scholarships and not playing because they don't fit the system. CBJ signed some good classes by several matrixes, but they either didn't play well or at all and some of the more talented players are doing better at other schools or the NFL than they ever did because they didn't fit the schemes that CBJ was trying to play. That and chasing high star prospects left us with glaring weaknesses on the line and a bunch of skill players that didn't contribute.

Maybe it is the optimist in me, but I think that CJP is recruiting a lot an is looking for the right guys, not just the ones that boost our recruiting rankings and help him keep his job in the short term.

they're definitely not star gazers. but they're in on as many 4 and 5* guys as UGA, Bama and Auburn are, many of whome we're all competing for. so it is what it is.

their stance on those guys seems to be something along the lines of "we'll land some, but we won't land any if we don't try".

past that, they're really trying to evaluate as many guys as they can, up close and personal.

Concur... quality over quantity seems to be the mentality. I for one believe that the current recruiting cycle is going very well, considering the season that we just had.

it is going well. the only thing that could be better (and i'm not sure that it won't be by Feb) is hte front 7 recruiting. past that, i think we've got a really good class put together so far.

All the joking aside, I think Pruitt and crew know what they're doing in recruiting and pretty amazing they have us in this position in recruiting leading up to tomorrow ESD. Half the battle is team belief in the direction the team is going, and the other half is talent. Think recruits have to see the positive mind-set on campus now, and we're bringing in some talent, for sure.
