Vitello talks about working relationship with Pruitt

Every other school that has an opening fills it quickly. Yet UT has a new plan of strategically delaying it because as we've been told, there are no negatives to waiting. I'm expecting a national championship next year as apparently UT found "this one trick that will bring you a title that they don't want you to know."

Is Helton telling other OCs about his experience here? That’s what some think is causing concern for other coaches.

Should have hired Mullen last year. He’s tearing it up now.

Yea, we should have done a bunch of things but guess what?

As bad as it looks, there is still a good chance we don't end up any worse than we already were. Feel better?

Divided into two camps, Chicken Littles vs Let This Play Out. I'm in the "Let This Play Out" camp. Sure everyone wants to know what's really going on with the OC search, and know it yesterday or last week. A lot of posters feel like UT is getting left behind other schools and their recent hires, and the lack of any credible information can be frustrating. But the people who need to know, CJP & ADPF, do. We don't. I for one have been most impressed with the almost complete lack of information during this search, no one with inside info is leaking anything to anyone. That is almost impossible in this day and age!

Chicken Littles ( imo ) will think we've offered practically everyone the OC job only to be turned down each and every time. I believe CJP has his OC and has for some time, and they are just waiting til their current gig is up. A couple of wild guesses would be someone in the same circumstances as Kitchens or Long. If it turns out to be Friend, I'll eat this post.

Again, I've been impressed with CJP's stealthiness...

Everyone is letting it play out. We come on a message board to talk about it while it plays out.

I am just like a beat dog, look for nothing but bad from the athletic dept, they have screwed the pooch so much, I think they enjoy it. Only true positive on the hill is Coach Barnes

I am almost certain if you look back to when Barns was hired you probably had a ton of negative **** to say.

I know you’re joking but not ending up worse isn’t a goal for us. We need to step on some heads to climb out of this hole.

It's weird UT does things seemingly the exact opposite of nearly every other school and we act like its some master strategy. Can someone point me to an example of how UTs master strategy for winning football has been effective in 12 years or so.

What was our options, force mullen at gun point or kidnap his family to take the job?

I really thought some of you understood this.

If Pruitt was to hire Friend as the OC. Then i think he sealed his faith as Tennessee head coach. Then we start over again.

Its all about the benjamins.

Had we hired mullen we would likely be in a mid teir bowl right now talking about ut finally being on the right track.

Instead we have a losing season, hoping to get to 6 wins next year, putting down players and defending a coach, hoping to be champs of the off season in recruiting and such.

Seems like ive seen this movie before.

And before we start the "we gots ourselves a real football coach now" stuff, we literally said / heard the same thing last time.

You have no clue what is or isn't a "goal for us". Lol, who's head are you stepping on Jack.

No, I'm not joking. I care and I wish it was different. I sometimes get the feeling its gonna change and shake my pom poms and defend the University. But look where we are today Jack. So, I just hope for the best and mess with you.

Mullen was going to leave Starkville last offseason. We did slow-play him in order to interview Schiano after the OSU-Michigan game. By that time, Chip Kelly and Scott Frost spurned Florida and the rest is history. I think Mullen was always going to choose UF over us but we made it really easy for him....

I was joking, but I am not sure anything less than say 10 million a year gets mullen here.

You have the wrong two camps.

One camp is (Camp A)...it will result in something good for Tennessee.

The other camp is (Camp B) whatever happens will turn out badly.

Camp A is of the “give the man a chance” mindset.

Camp B is of the “ Ive seen this **** before” whether it was 3, 6, 9, whatever years ago.

I think Camp B would feel better if a decision was rumored, that decision came to fruition, and it looked like everything went according to plan.

But, nothing ever looks like it went according to plan
You’re right camp b would feel better. They are bored with complaining about a hire not being made.
They need an announcement so they can move on to complaining about who was hired.
Then in a few weeks they can complain about all the players we were unable to sign.
Then when that gets old they can start complaining about ( insert your own choice here)

Personally, I don't mind waiting till Spring practice.....if we get a very good OC who can recruit. Time simply does not matter for the right guy.

That would destroy recruiting but I don't necessarily disagree. The only problem is we can't afford to whiff on another class and fall even further behind the rest of the SEC

Im with the patient group. Pruitt got his man to run his offense snd it will be his offense and not turn the key over to Briles system. Thats not how it works.9B6876E8-6275-40B3-84A1-188E56DDB9A8.gif
