So he was just speculating it might be a coach playing for a championship? He didn’t say it like fulmer told him?

No he doesn't know who it is or why not announcing. He was giving hypothetical reasons why a coach wouldn't be announced and why they could be waiting. He may end up FOS but he sure sounds confident and he would know if anyone did. Fulmer and Pruitt and their staffs will only let out what they want let out according to him. He said it's a staff that doesn't talk to these reporters like previous ones did

TIFWIW, but for those speculating that Chip Long is the guy, his path to OC was as a TE coach (one year as TE/FB coach), so we would probably have to move some offensive staff around if he got the job.

Ideally you've gotta think they could like a guy who can be OC/QB coach. Otherwise Weinke would be our only guy with any QB coaching experience (one year with the Rams).

Why is it so hard to understand that the powers that be are not ready to make the hire public. They have their reasons which they do not have to justify Until. they. make. the. hire. public,
I choose to respect and trust that Until They are proven wrong. There will be plenty of time to critique the hire Once It is Made.......Go Big Orange

Are you new here? 😆

Yes. Fulmer has told him they know who they’re hiring and there’s no reason to worry. Why would Doug lie? He wouldn’t. Fulmer isn’t going to lie to him either. They know who it is. We’re just waiting on them to announce it.
It was reported by one of the guys that two interviews were completed on the coach that was top man in his home state. I think that is around the time the 95% done statement came out.

Chris Low said this morning that Freeze was told By Sankey that he preferred he take another job before ever coming back to SEC. so if anyone blocked Freeze it was Sankey

SEC office is ridiculous. I would consider legal action if I were Freeze. They think they can run the entire show. There is nothing stopping a school from hiring him and take that risk. Mind you, I am not saying that Freeze should be hired anywhere without some due diligence, but that is just straight arrogance. Add that to Sankey’s comments about UCF “looking inward.” I am becoming turned off more and more about how the conference is run.

Yeah, becoming clear that Pruitt probably interviewed Freeze, liked what he heard football-wise, thought they could work together, and then when the athletic department/administration did their due diligence on his background there were some real ugly skeletons there. I'd imagine once Pruitt learned about them he probably realized it wasn't worth the trouble, and moved on. Schools like Auburn and FSU passing on Freeze tells me that whatever is out there is pretty significant to scare those programs off. From outsiders hearing of this second and third hand, it got "telephoned" into "Pruitt wanted Freeze but the UTAD blocked him."

I dont think it ever got to the point of being blocked. I dont think Pruitt pushed for it.

That’s why i want to see if stuff comes out a few months from now which it usually does.

My best guess to what happened is that freeze was either at the top or close to the top of Pruitts wants list. We know for a fact he interviewed. We started to Vet him obviously... and either someone in Memphis, Matt Luke (former fulmer Assistant), or Houston nutt (who fulmer is friends with), showed some dirt to UT and that made us really take a step back dig some more and then UT as a whole decided to go another direction.

If Bama can’t have him, no one can.

Freeze went to Liberty for a reason. He probably has more stuff out there and Sankey knows it. So Sankey prefers to have a period of time to allow for that to come out or stay hidden but prefers if it comes out it's not under his watch

Why on earth would he do that? He would ruin his career cuz every bit of dirt on him would come out, from his time as a HC coach to at OM

Also keep in mind that Ole miss fired freeze really quick and slapped them selves with a bowl ban. They didn’t want The NCAA to step in and start digging. They tried to handle it as quick as possible. That usually means it was a lot worse then what is out there.
Yup and Sankey. He probably told any SEC school+Freeze if he takes an SEC job more info will be released on him

You're assuming there is a load of, yet to be revealed, dirt on him but stating it as fact.

Good point, but I am not sure how much “more dirt” there really is. The NCAA did not give him a show cause.

The point still remains that Sankey is becoming as arrogant as Mike Slive.

Honestly i think it’s more likely that fulmer is feeling the fans get restless and he is getting Doug to help him out and Doug is going to bat for him by saying something that sounds like a big deal but it’s really just hot air.

Yeah that's working well.

That's an extremely stupid move by Phil if true. If they trot Google guy after that play you have Pruitt taking a dud while "interviewing" at least 2 names that sound great and dragging out a process over weeks that could have been done in days.
Or he gets called a liar because it never was true and Pruitt is scrambling. Foolish move that is not needed. IMO.

I dont get the impression they are in panic mode. You d probably be seeing some more names this week if they were.
That means either both Fulmer and Pruitt are clueless or both know things are good.

I think Pruitt was interested, sure.

I doubt that was your run of the mill background and references check.

I’m not assuming he has a ton of dirt. I’m saying whatever dirt (however small) he does have would be revealed if he tried to take Sankey to court. Sankey could easily pull some strings and get an NCAA investigation on him lol

I hope that’s the case and I’m wrong about that. I just know how coaches and agents especially like to talk. If there was someone that is “95% done” or whatever. I feel like they would be a tiny fraction of information about it somewhere. TN has a million people covering it and a lot of damn good reporters with a lot of sources. I feel like someone would know something.
