Because he can't come out himself and say "we've got someone, but I'm not telling who it is." That would look ridiculous. But he wants us to know.Fulmer could have also told him to say that to take fan pressure off of him and Pruitt. If Fulmer and Pruitt already had their man and was just waiting and keeping it a secret(maybe they do maybe they don’t idk)why would he tell Matthews and let him go tell everyone else?
Rumors that Pruitt has his guy but waiting to announce due to the new OC is still coaching in a championship game. Chip is from Alabama. I believe he flirted with Bama OC job last year. Maybe Kelly is leaving for the NFL? Rumors and speculation mostly.
That’s basically what he’s doing right now with Matthews lolBecause he can't come out himself and say "we've got someone, but I'm not telling who it is." That would look ridiculous. But he wants us to know.
That's a hypothetical. I'm not saying I believe it or don't believe it. But sometimes that's how these things work.
Did the championship part come from Matthews too?Rumors that Pruitt has his guy but waiting to announce due to the new OC is still coaching in a championship game. Chip is from Alabama. Fulmer never told him a name and Doug said he didn't ask for one. I don't know what Long makes at ND but I bet UT would bump it and he likes the Southeast better. I also would like to hear from TW or Tidal Surge on what some of their message boards were saying before Saban promoted Enos.Doug Matthews is right. Fulmer told him directly. They have their guy already, their just waiting to announce it. He said he heard that from Fulmer's mouth. He didn't make that up and I doubt Fulmer is lying to him. We'll find out when they're ready to announce it.

I don’t think they would hire a guy if they believed it would be a big negative to recruiting. Also don’t think they would hide that from recruits. If you like a guy enough to hire him as OC, you believe your recruits will like him as well.I probably shouldn't post this because I think Probst is far fetched but let's for a second say he was the choice.
It would be in our best interest to keep that quiet as long as possible for recruiting purposes. Recruits wouldn't handle that news well and our rivals would eat it up.
