This coaching search in the back of Pruitt's mind...

To say Vandy was more talented is just a way to hide Pruitt’s failure.

Vandy certainly had better football players than Tennessee. That was obvious from the start, and almost all of those football players were on the team before Pruitt got here. In fact, they were a lot of the same football players that had been beaten by Vandy the two years before.

Now, if it is your contention that the current staff should have been able to turn those guys into good football players in one season, so be it. It's an argument that can't be won either way.

Ever since Pruitt was hired as the new coach at Tennessee it has been speculated that he would leave for Bama when they come calling after Saban leaves. I was kind of 50/50 on that, thinking if he has built a top notch program by then why leave and go try to fill shoes that I don't think any other coach in America could fill. We all hate Bama but if we are being non-biased, Saban is the greatest coach since Bear Bryant. That brings me to this coaching search and how its probably always going to be in the back of Pruitt's mind if this scenario of Bama comes calling plays out in the distant future. I know rumors have been flying in every direction but Trey Wallace and Dan Harralson talked about it in a podcast that the admin (nobody can pinpoint it to a specific person) did in fact derail Pruitt's hire of Freeze. That can't sit well with him knowing every hiring decision he makes in the future is going to have to be signed off by people who have never placed one foot on Shields-Watkins Field.

Well, it could be just as true that they are running with an unfounded rumor as well.

Given Freeze ended up at Liberty and not UT, AU, FSU, or Bama (who had no qualms last year bringing him in as an analyst) Im inclined to believe that if Pruitt wanted Freeze from the start he wasn't blocked by anyone at UT in hiring him. That sounds like a convenient excuse if you re a fan that wanted Freeze and think he was at the top of Pruitt's list. Everybody needs a goat at that point.

Having said all that, UT has bumbled and fumbled its way around for a decade with HC's and staff. Some of that was incompetent Admin. Some of it the incompetent HC's that they hired.

Im leaning more toward what Doug Matthews has said. There doesn't seem to be any reason why the names we are now hearing (non playoff team coordinators or coaches) can't be hired without a delay. The longer it drags out the more I believe him.

Whenever Saban departs for the Green Bay job in January, Dabo will quickly come running home.

Coach JP isn't currently even in the top-5 for that job.

Urban Meyer might make a miraculous recovery and put his name in the hat for the job:)

Damn. That left a mark.

Our admin is interested in the cash football brings. Period. If 102,455 hit that stadium every gameday (or even anything over 85K or so) and we all keep buying merchandise, I don't think they give a rat's patootie about what is on the field.
Yep, they took advantage of the fans. As long as the fans were buying they were serving.

If the admin wasn't concerned about winning, we wouldn't have been hiring our 5th coach in a decade last season. They might be incompetent, but they obviously want to win. They're kinda like Dan Snyder. Some of y'all are truly out there. It's impressive really.

No one knows whether CJP even tried to hire Freeze. Not having an admin name allows media types to throw a bunch of BS out there without having to justify or verify anything. I find it humorous how many people believe that the admin actively works against the athletic department in an effort to ensure that our football program struggles. What possible reasons exist that would demonstrate that sort of activity by our the system leadership? Is it the tired old excuse of “power”?!? When the football team is highly successful, the rest of the school and the state itself benefits. More students apply to school, more media attention is given to the school, more tickets are sold, more shirts are sold, etc, which all would suggest the admin would support a successful program. I think people need to turn off the conspiracy media types and just let the coaches do their jobs.

I do not agree with this at all. Vandy had a team of players that had been developed for up to 4 years while Tennessee had a team of players that had spring practice and fall camp to develop and had no development the previous 4 years.

That would be interesting. First, I highly doubt Saban has any interest in leaving Alabama, much less returning to the NFL.

Second, why would Dabo leave the relative ease of the ACC to the meat grinder of the SEC? Yea, bama is his alma mater, but he has a very favorable situation at Clemson. I would be surprised he would leave unless that conference gets a lot more competitive.

The S.E.C said no to Saban bringing him to bama last year then it only makes sense that they said no to the vols this year.Maybe he's on some kind of two year ban or something.

He was under a 1 year show-cause penalty that just expired; common knowledge that's been talked about in every thread on the topic.

Former Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze received a one-year show cause and two-game suspension from the NCAA, but only for head coaching positions. If he takes a coordinator or assistant’s job, there would be no restrictions, sources told ESPN. The fact that Bama, Auburn, and FSU all struck out with Freeze screams that it was something above UT's admin saying no. Jerry Falwell Jr and Ian McCaw said yes. Liberty seems like a moral compass, but those two names make you question that fact.

The job is Dabos, or Kirbys before it would be Pruitts. Pruitt still has to prove himself here before he moves on to bigger and better things

Saban isn’t going to GB!! Come on get a grip!! He tried with the Dolphins and went 14-18 in 2 years. NFL isn’t in the cards. I would be absolutely FLOORED if he leaves Bama now....

The job is probably more like a dozen other coaches' before it's Pruitt's. Bama isn't hiring anybody without a natty to his name, or least a guy whose teams regularly compete for them while winning conference titles.

No we did not have equal or better talent. Some like to pretend we do but we do not. It will get better.
Auburn had better talent...most likely Kentucky too. That didn’t add up for him tho. 😉
