What are you guys seeing in Ludwig? Not being argumentative- just want to hear what you guys like. I see he has a ton of experience and I don't think he would embarrass us, but there's also not a lot of excitement in his resume. Vanderbilt's offense hasn't seemed that innovative to me. I just don't see him as someone who is game changer for us.
Experience. He's called plays longer than Lebby has had pubes. Nothing agains Lebby, I'm sure he has a bright future but he's the QB's coach at UCF and has ONE year calling plays at Southeastern University. We've all seen how big of a job calling plays at a place like Tennessee is and I'd prefer a guy with at least some experience on the big stage and with success.

Ludwig isn't sexy and won't wow recruits with his name but he's been an OC in the Pac 12, Big 10 and SEC. That means quite a bit in my book, especially with a young inexperienced HC who's expertise is defense. Personally, I think this hire needs to be someone who can take over the offense and doesn't need micromanaging from Pruitt.

If we're settling for Lebby, I'd rather give the job to Osovet.

Lebby understands offense. I fear him because he doesn’t have much experience. But if he can implement that Briles system, maybe he’d be okay. But he’d have to prove it whereas Briles would come in day one and be a proven elite play caller
Meh. An example of Tennessee being able to have the real thing, but goes bargain basement.

Ludwig has already proven he’s a 5-7 to 6-6 guy though. His offense isn’t going to sky rocket us to success

Sure sounds like we offered Briles, but he thinks he is a better fit somewhere else, so he kindly declined. If so, then I’m guessing that’s why we interviewed the guy at UCF. I’m guessing Briles said no, but recommend bro-in-law, as someone who knows his system and would be a good hire. Just a guess.
If we hire another inexperienced coordinator we are screwed, imo.

We will find out how good Murray is in a few weeks. He hasn’t faced a defense like Bama’s all year.
True, but Clemson had some luck a couple of years ago. On a side note I think Tua also fails to check down and tries to do too much at times. Sure, it didn’t hurt him until the UGA game, but it is a flaw in his game.

why did Briles interview if he wasn't really interested? Does this mean our staff did not rub well with him, or did he not want to join the UT circus?

I am losing faith if Pruitt trots out an inexperienced guy. Friend at least has experience. Sick of how crappy our program appears to those outside it.
Recipe for disaster. He got a Mulligan the first time and now if he rolls the dice again, he deserves whatever criticism that comes his way.

Why does everything have to be innovative?

It doesn't have to be I guess. But if we have top 10 or 15 talent every year and we are banging our heads with teams that have top 5 or 10 talent, an innovative offensive scheme could leverage our talent into some wins we otherwise wouldn't get.

He doesn’t have to skyrocket us to success, with Pruitt’s D winning will rarely be entirely on the offenses shoulders. Ludwig has set program records at his last too stops, maybe he continues that trend at UT.
