Chaney was interested in the job before Pruitt hired Helton.

I still have my reservations about Chaney because his playcalling...just my opinion...didn't make a lot of sense at times. The offense would be struggling and then finally get momentum going with the run game, they would be heading into field goal range, grabbed another badly needed 1st down on the ground, and then he'd chuck it to the endzone. That was obviously more of a problem with lesser talent like Simms compared to Bray...where his arm could overcome things. The UGA fans I'm around have been complaining about his playcalling all season. Never doubted him as a coach and I think his time at Arkansas and UGA has made his offensive schemes much better in regards to running the ball. I would still rather have Enos, but the offense would be ok under Chaney.

Who was the most accomplished RB we had under Dooley/ Cheney? Poole?

I always thought he called his offense at Tennessee like it was Big 10 ball. He's a lot better now, but those tendencies still show up.

Unless they're going after Freeze or promoting Gattis instead. or maybe Saban has another outside guy coming in. Or, maybe Pruitt went in their with the Brinks truck and made it happen.

I remember when Chaney was at UT, there were daily calls for him to be tarred and feathered. What a difference a few years makes.

To me Dan Werner checks all the boxes. Former OC at Ole Miss and currently coaching QBs at South Carolina. Maybe Pruitt consulted Freeze about him when they met. Who knows?
