"I think the Hugh Freeze stuff has some legs"

If there has been an OC Hire or a verbal agreement,

I would think they would let some type of news drop late today so it would carry into tomorrows championship game.
Also during the game it would run continuously across the bottom line.

the only good news is that he wn't have to go to many living rooms....and likely the SEC would put restrictions on his ability to make in home visits, based on what i heard/read the other day.

i'm not one that thinks we have to hire Freeze. i see both good and bad.

i just know this, somone is going to hire him, and there's not a lot of debate about how good of an offensive mind he is.

over a long enough time line, the "bad" tends to fade a bit, espeically if he's successful and keeps his nose clean.

long story short, if we as a program decide we don't want to carry the baggage that goes along with hiring him, i'm fine with that and understand it.
Sorry we’ve got to hire Freeze or Bama will, which will give them an insurmountable lead over us. We’re already too far behind as is. So we’ve got to take Freeze off the market. It’s a make or break hire imo. That’s the bottom line.

maybe. but i don't think we'll make the decision to hire Freeze so Bama can't.

that just wont' be the reason we do it.

but i totally understand what not hirining him and having Bama or Auburn snatching up would do perception wise.

Not perception wise substance wise. Don’t misunderstand me we’ll hire Freeze for all the right fit / football reasons not just to outmaneuver Bama. But not hiring him imo has a much more significant downside than not hiring any of the others on the OC list. It will put us even farther behind. Hiring Freeze is not just the smart move it’s really the only winning move no matter how technically competent any of the other candidates may be. That’s why I call it make or break for Pruitt. We’ll never catch Bama during Pruitt’s tenure if we let Freeze get away to them.

we just don't know that to be true yet.

i get exactly why you feel the way you do about this.

and there is definitely a lot riding with this hire. i think everyone, pruitt and fulmer particularly, knows that.

the only thing i'll say is this, the fact that he's actually a legit candidate, that he's been interviewed, talked to, met with coaches, AD and other staff members, apparently maybe more than once this week, at least is a departure from what we've seen in the past in regards to hires like this.

there really was a time, not that long ago, that Hugh Freeze wouldn't have even gotten a phone call from us to guage interest.

the fact he's seriously being considered at least shows there's some level of committment to winning. and if they don't hire him, you just have to chock it up to the fact that they think they can do better wiht some one else.

there will be people that would disagee with that.......and they'll have to live with the reaction....lol.

there are much worse hires to be made than Enos or Lindsay. but in my heart of hearts, i'd probably lean towards saying hiring Freeze is a clear indication of what we expect as a program going forward. and while i won't necessarily be disappointed if we don't hire him..................

i can't say i won't be a miffed if Bama or someone else in the SEC does..........................lol.

Last year we thought they were serious about talking with established head coaches and then we found out that it was all widow dressing to ready us for Schiano. People haven't forgotten. Every move they make is going to viewed with skepticism if it doesn't produce desired results. They need to close this deal.

i get that. but part of the consternation with the way that search all went down was finding out that we didn't even ATTEMPT to go after many of the names many of us talked about.

that's not the case here. that, in and of itself is progress...............lol.

Agree with everything, especially the last sentence. Lol, I font know if I'll be more mad that we didn't get him or that Bama might.

Awesome response! We see things pretty much the same. In the big boy football world you’ve got to make moves to neutralize the dominant teams not just to “enhance” your own. When you can do both that’s a walkoff grand slam and those don’t happen very often. Time for Tennessee and our fans to step it up and quit thinking incrementally. Big moves = big improvement

The longer this goes the more I think he goes somewhere else. IMO Sexton would push him toward Bama.
That's what I'm thinking too. I really thought with all the media buzz about him coming to UT that we were going to get him. Now after seeing the media bringing up Lindsey today and Drinkwitz, sounds like Freeze is dragging his heels. Reports state that Pruitt met with him Wednesday, so if the other names are still being brought up and no one really knowing when the announcement will be, I'm prepping myself for an utter letdown.

Sexton would push him for the best deal. Jimmy wont push him away from UT. Sexton is still a UT guy but his job is to do the best for his clients which in turn makes it the best for him.
