Hugh Freeze is a good coach, that much is evident. He had a great record at Ole Miss and was an excellent (even eyebrow raising) recruiter. But, those reasons alone are not the number one reason why he should be hired as the Tennessee offensive coordinator.

It's because for the first time in a long time, you'd have stability. Why's that?

The number one reason he should be hired is if something happens with Pruitt and he gets canned, UT now has a VERY clear succession plan to plug in a guy who has been a proven winner in the S.E.C. into its head coach position.

I'm going to go ahead and say it now - if Tennessee hires Hugh Freeze, not only is it a slam dunk for the present, THAT will be the beginning of returning the Vols back to prominence in the future. GBO!!

If Pruitt gets canned, you gotta think Freeze would, at that point, have been a big flop. Therefore, I doubt he’d have himself aligned to take over for Pruitt.

And If UT is thriving under Freeze and Pruitt, why would Pruitt leave?

The exception could be that UT’s offense is doing great under Freeze, but UT is still losing due to defense, special teams and general dysfunction within the program, then maybe you could see Pruitt out and Freeze in. An example of that was at the end of Bobby Bowden’s tenure at FSU. They were playing horrible defense, they were losing, the program was disorganized, but the offense was solid. Bowden retires, OC Jimbo Fisher takes over.

It happens every year. Coach is fired, OC becomes coach and the team starts winning.

If the HC is micromanaging their OC then the OC isn't a big flop.

would Coach Pruitt, AD Fulmer, and Coach Freeze even mesh together...if hired we're still two more years from competing for the SEC East...if we improve even close to that, Coach Freeze will be hired away from us...you really don't think he'll stay just to be an OC do you...he's already had a taste of the "big time coach" thingee...yep, he wants more and can't say I blame him...good gig if you can get it...:D

GO VOLS...RECRUIT LIKE HECK!

If this is the angle, Pruitt should stay far away from Freeze. Before the ink is even dry, it’s in the minds of people that Freeze should take over? Not an ideal dynamic for the head coach in my opinion.

Yeah I get it - you're trolling - As a Gators fan it wouldn't be great, but it's the truth. Slam dunk.

Not trolling. I’d have no issue with Freeze being hired at UT. Mike Leach was the only coach out there that would have made me a little uneasy. Wasn’t worried about Gruden, or anyone else, certainly not worried about Freeze.

Tennessee has all the pieces to be successful -

- Great facilities
- Lots of money
- Large stadium
- RABID fan base

It just needs a proven winner at head coach - I'm telling you Freeze is the guy and you've got a chance to bring him in to get him acquainted with the school and people involved with U.T., that is the bigger picture here.

Did you consider that a head coach could be fired for reasons not necessarily related to football?
Ask Mike Price. Pensacola Florida with ladies of the night while on Obama's dime

Seriously, be more like UGA and Bama fans. I hate the Gators so much but the Jort Nation is a really friendly, pleasant bunch.

I’d expect Freeze to be gone in a year or two regardless.

Yeah but even just the possibility of Freeze taking over at head coach should excite every single U.T. fan.

Take away the thing that happened in the past (and this seasons record), think about right now at this moment, would you rather have Pruitt or Freeze as head coach? A guy who is learning on the job, or a guy who has been in the trenches and taken a team to the Sugar Bowl and won. Oh and beat Nick Saban. TWICE IN A ROW.

You're 1000% correct.

If Pruitt gets canned, I highly doubt the offense is scoring 50+ a game and looking like worldbeaters. If anything, the book on Freeze at that point would be that he was given another chance and failed. It'd be hard for him to find another top job at that point.

Trying to make Coach Pruitt feel insecure about hiring Freeze won't work. He's smarter than that.
Im not so sure. I found a gif of him seeing asparagus and not knowing what it was. Smart people know their veggies.

Yeah, I’d take Freeze right now.

No. The reason you hire whoever you hire is that they can help the program win as soon as possible... not so they can help the program fail again and then take over as if that would happen anyway.
