He left that on the table at OM due to the escort issue and the cheating issue. His time prior to OM didn't enter into it. OM had every right to fire him for cause when Houston Nutt's lawyer dug up phone records showing he dialed an escort service and that's exactly what they did in response. However, OM would've never fired Freeze (they'd have kept him even with the NCAA penalties) had Nutt's lawyer not made it public.
Houston Nutt's lawyer didn't dig up any information on the phone records. That information came from a Mississippi State fan who was writing a book about the recruiting feud between the two schools. He requested the phone records from Ole Miss through some open records act. Once he saw the 800 number, he called it and the rest is history. He couldn't wait to get to Nutt's attorney with the information. It was pretty much a fluke kinda thing in reality.

If he's that rigid he will fail here. But I have to wonder why a guy with a defensive background would have such a hardened offensive philosophy to begin with. He hasn't publicly expressed much of one and Saban changes OC's and offensive styles these days like shoes so I don't understand where that's coming from. Are folks just assuming that because he came from BAMA and people still think BAMA runs the same offense from 10 years ago (they don't) that he somehow demands that offense?

He's said all year that he wants to run the ball and that's what they've continued to try to do. After games where the offense couldn't run at all, he said that they're not going to change what they want to do. After Vandy, he said he planned and called the same things he did at Bama and they worked there, but not here. We didn't have the personnel on either side of the ball, but he made the decision to move forward and install what he wanted and recruit into it. Some call it taking the long view; some call it having a strong vision. Or maybe he just wants to stick with what he knows and what he thinks will eventually get the results he wants.

Was here there when Cam was there? I am guessing no but was just wondering how long he has been at AU.
Chip Lindsey - Football Coach - Auburn University Athletics

He has an impressive resume. Known Pruitt and many on our staff for years.

Last year at Auburn they rushed and passed for over 3000 yards each. Hubbs said recently that Gus has taken over more of the play calling/game planning and not let Lindsey do his thing this season, which didn't work out so well, and he wants out. Think Butch and Shoop I suppose.

With him being due a $100 K bonus if he's still on Auburn's staff on Sunday, I expect this to wrap up soon. Especially since they are mutually reworking Mahlzahn's contract now.
That’s an interesting point. Auburn may try to push him out but they have no legal recourse to do so.

If they try he can just say he wants his full buyout.

I believe Lindsey is underrated as an OC. He is very flexible and has experience with a variety of offenses.

Pruitt would let him run the O the way he wants.

McLendon is unknown as an OC and is known as a much better recruiter. Time will tell with him. Pruitt spent this past season babysitting Helton. He doesn't want to do it again.

Give me Hurts as our QB as a graduate transfer, Linsdey as our OC, and a bigger, stronger OL and let's ride.

Doubt it but it should help with other recruits. Namely a couple 5 star WR's, Hazelwood and Pickens. And with Kelly Bryant leaning Auburn he might head to Knoxville now instead.

True. Pickens been looking around already and most likely won’t end up there, especially if his OC leaves. Still think Hazelwood ends up Miami or somewhere else but maybe this would help us get him on campus.

Pruitt said he was on the offensive side of the ball in HS, so he knows offense. But I wouldn't worry; no one knows if Pruitt is rigid or not, but I doubt he is because he has only had one OC at this point in his HC career. Pruitt has spent a lot of time in Tuscaloosa so certainly has seen Saban adapt his offensive philosophy. Also remember that he really wanted Joe Osovet on staff. Osovet's offense at ASA was 90% RPO, and you have to feel there was a reason Pruitt hired him as a quality control assistant just to get him on staff.

Thanks Ron. I really don't keep up with most teams staff like I use to. I use to know which asst. coach was hot and which were not but it seems the older you get the more real life doesn't give you as much time. lol
