MM was 22-23 for 303 yards and two TD's last night. The team still lost by 17 points. So what did he do to contribute to that? Held the ball too long, got sacked, timing was off with the poor O-line, Lewan was brain dead, etc. With a big assist from The Athletic this AM, the analysis shows that in the NFL, even some of the proven good to great QB's get drilled and their teams lose because they hold the ball for more than 2.5 seconds trying to make plays. The Titans also stunk at D last night to go with it.
Why do I bring this up? Sounds brutally familiar to me as a Vol fan. Expand it to 3 seconds for being in CFB. Go back and honestly look at JG's performance each game - bad pre-snap reads, bad coverage reads, locking on primary receivers, not stepping up or sliding, no feel. No wonder he got blown up so much. Got to get the ball out quick or run like Dobbs. It's why the Auburn jump balls worked for the 20+ yard throws. He was on with accuracy and anticipated the spot well throwing early. The receivers did their jobs. The problem was the opposing DC's adjusted to it and our WR's got banged up. So all we had for O was short passing and a mediocre run game. D's knew it and loaded the box and blitzed. We were done because JG is not mobile to offset.
Which is why Hurts for one season is a no-brainer. Transition QB that could make lemonade out of lemons until the roster solidifies in 2020.
