Helton is leaving on his own. How is that deflecting anything. Pruitt has said a number of times he is ultimately responsible and has to get better so we can get better.

Are you suggesting no finger pointing has been directed at Helton? But your right. I should have been clearer about whether I was talking about some in the fanbase or Pruitt himself. I've just been thinking about the sideline dynamic during the end of the first half of the Kentucky game. In retrospect it strikes me as very telling.

I have to think Rick Barnes has some small part of Unc thinking brown is a good hire

Sounds wierd but I believe that

Mack was able to gain the support of some big hitters in the Rams Club and pitch bringing back Chiz along with a top OC to Cunningham. He is great with people and will unite the boosters to support the program, a la a politician. Fedora was weak in this area.

Name to watch for UNC at OC is Kevin Wilson. Played at UNC, was head coach at Indiana and currently OC at Ohio State.

The fanbase has been tough on him all year, for sure. I misunderstood what you meant. I agree with you completely about the fanbase. Some of us won't be happy regardless of who we hire and the first time we fail in the red zone next year, the grumbling will begin.

I don’t know if Helton’s contract is the same as Fitz’s, but from the 247 report it sounded like their buyouts worked the same way.

I’m just saying all of this is negotiable on a case-by-case basis. And I’m saying the conversation could easily have gone something like this:

Pruitt/UT: “I want you as OC.”
Helton: “OK, but I like it here with Clay and I think I’m awesome. You’re going to have to pay me like a top-5 coordinator.”
Pruitt/UT: “OK, I mean we want you, so we’re open to paying you, but you’ve never even called plays before. $1.2M is pretty steep.”
Helton: “Oh, and you have to guarantee me 3 years of that salary.”
Pruitt/UT: “Good gracious alive. OK. If we’re going to take that kind of risk on you, though, we need to be able to reap the reward, so you can’t just leave after one year.”
Helton: “OK.”
And today?
Pruitt/Dave & Busters: “Get job?”
Helton/Dairy Queen pay phone: “Yeppers!”
Pruitt/Dave & Busters bathroom stall: “Aight...cool.”
Helton/Cricket wireless phone: “Laters!”

Next move for Helton, do not pay out $800 k...do not go home to Knoxville

Good chats all around. 😎

Pruitt has cast no shade. either out right or inferentially, toward Friend that I am aware of.

Agreed. Not a good look for him. That gameplan Saturday was atrocious.

“But it’s all on the players that don’t give a crap and just want to goof off and dance and didn’t want to go to a bowl game or have 15 extra practices!!!!!!!!!!”

How about James Coley? CO-OC at UGA, was OC at FSU when Pruitt was DC. Turned down the A&M OC job, so he might just be waiting to be OC and UGA if/when Chaney moves on.

He isn't the OC

He needs one more step
He’s the associate head coach, had been OC at Arky and HC at Central Michigan. Locksley is likely the new Maryland HC and Enos will be moved up.

There’s no reason for him to come here. He’s more likely to get a HC job as the associate head coach at Alabama than the OC at Tennessee running a struggling offense.
