Fair enough, good points. But no matter who the coach was at Tennessee in 2018 we weren’t winning more than five or six games with this roster. Even if Nick Saban was the head coach. Maybe he gets this team to 7 wins. So I don’t think it was a “bad season” but rather year one of a massive rebuild.
Pretty sure this is what I told you multiple times over this offseason, Ron. 😎 More importantly however, folks need to remain calm. I personally still have a kind of confidence in Pruitt that's foreign to me when it comes to Tennessee football. Let's get hype for recruiting season, and hope to land a top ten class. It's absolutely necessary in order to expedite this thing. We'll have a better team next season, probably in that 7 win range, and it'll all be ok in the end if we keep cool heads. Looks like Helton is gone, and hopefully we bring in a top coordinator who's a better fit.

I don’t think we have a good roster by any means. Don’t get it twisted. I think you can have a mediocre roster and make a bowl game. Even if we don’t make a bowl game fine, but we weren’t even competitive half the time we were on the field. We had 6 losses by 25+ That’s where i put some blame on coaches too. We may be bad but we’re not that bad. Getting them ready and keeping them from packing it in and playing hard is on the coaches. That’s one thing they completely failed at imo. If we lost two close games to Vanderbilt and Missouri then my outlook would be totally different.
Every team we lost that badly to is an elite team with an elite offense. Candy is the only exception, and you can watch that film and see the reality, players didn’t want to be there.

You know, it’s hard to stop passing offenses with slow linebackers, below average safeties, zero pass rush, and freshmen corners. But that’s where we are at. We don’t have the players.

If it's true that Pruitt has identified players that he doesn't want to be part of this team and let them know this either directly or indirectly by ignoring them and family members and continued to let them play and be part of this team, he made a terrible mistake. It's like firing an employee and giving them two weeks to find another job. Best case is you're going to get zero effort and giveadamn and worst case a bunch of saboteurs.

Parents complaining are just that. Parents who liked how butch would stroke their egos and pay attention to them. Think of Jeremy and the coaches show. He doesn’t have time for that. Some parents don’t care others care a lot. The ones he is ignoring are ones you don’t see on the field a lot. He tried and after awhile, he gave up on them and their playing time went away. That still makes a bad depth situation even worse and then yes, you have to use some of those guys in a game situation and they don’t care like they should.

Yes but wanting to play and taking to twitter are two separate things. Imo with him going to twitter i guess he was causing some issues in that locker room. At least putting off bad vibes

I don’t think he’s the only one. He is probably leaving but not sure Sapp was the problem. He hardly played the second half of the season.

I agree, Tee has a way over inflated opinion of himself. He may turn into a great coach sometime but he's got a ways to go. I thought it was laughable when many were suggesting he was ready for the head coaching job at UT. He said the only way he would leave USC for UT was if it was for the head coach, not the OC. I was thinking, dude, you're not even the OC at USC.
Yeah that one might have turned out worse than Dooley. Fulmer knew he wasn't ready, pretty sure he didn't even sit him down for an interview.

This was among the most bizarre seasons of UT football I can remember.

Against cupcakes we looked mostly miserable. Like, wow, can’t believe we can be this bad.

Then a middle stretch of the season where things looked totally turned around. Beat Auburn, Uk, and look competitive in other games.

Then BAM. Back to complete meltdown garbage.

I just have no clue how to evaluate any of it

Yea, that's the point I was trying to make. I think it's difficult trying to hold a team together with players with one foot out the door. I think the evidence of that was the last three games of the season. Players that came to the realization that they were done at UT and lost what little bit of giveadam they had left. In hindsight I have to wonder if it would have been better to usher them out in the spring and dealt with the depth problems this season.

I don't really know his history, but before the Florida game, he probably thought Tennessee had just as good if not a better roster than Florida, and expected a win. Now, he thinks Florida's roster is head and shoulders above the Tennessee roster. Granted, it is better, but he'll pretend like it has nothing to do with Mullen.

Maybe but they weren't as bad of a problem until season played out and they weren't playing. In off-season they all thought they could play. It's just the pathetic way these kids are these days they give up. Nobody understands playing role guy and waiting your turn anymore or try as hard as you can while you are somewhere regardless of feelings

You mean this happened even with Pruitt talking about flipping the roster the last month. Tell me it ain't so.

If Helton does go back to USC to be with his brother (yes, please), we need to bring in an experienced OC. If only there was one out the in the cold, temporarily frozen out of coaching in the SEC.
Freeze would be a dream come true. However he's not really a power running attack guy, which Pruitt wants. As good as an offensive mind as he is though I'm sure he could field a heck of a unit built around a power running game.

Living in the Nashville area this must not continue.

It’s awful these last 7 years.

Although it’s kind of cute with the out state thing. They aren’t even the big man on their own campus, let alone stadium, let alone city, let alone state.

Wreaks of inferiority. I hope when we pound them next year none of our players spew that pee wee stuff.

I don’t think Florida has an elite offense by any means. I also don’t think Georgia does either but either way.

We were giving schurmer and vandy basically everything underneath the whole game. That was my issue. A NFL caliber QB isn’t going to miss throws within 10 yards. If you get beat over top then so be it but that is just asking to be beat.

I also thought our game plan against SC was very nice on offense and Helped our OL and JG... we never saw that again.

You could be right but we all expected some turnover and we saw virtually none. I thought that was strange. I honestly think he was giving everyone a fair shot. I don't think the spring showed him much.

The team with the better QB wins.

We had the better QB in games we won.

Have to find that QB.
I would say we beat Auburn with a worse QB and lost to UF with a better QB. Bama beat plenty of good teams with mediocre QB’s under Saban. Oline and defense is bigger of problems than QB, defense I think we definitely fix under Pruitt tho
