Our “high” recruiting classes have been pushed around by Vandy for 3 years. Vandy...

Really need to purge the guys taking up space and aren’t hungry to win. I’m not sure who they are, but the coaches do, and bags need to be packed. Go play somewhere with 5,000 people in attendance and lollygagging is expected

I think this is just the easy answer. Sure, some players need to go. But the offensive staff needs to brain storm as well.

I can’t blame the offensive staff simply because of how horrible the O Line is. How do you scheme to cover that, run a screen every single play? The Oline was a huge limiting factor and at its very best was till porous.
Until we get an Oline that can actually block then it’s truly impossible to judge the OC as he is seriously handcuffed in his abilities to call plays. Now if the Oline doesn’t get better from year one to year two, which will honestly be hard not too, then clearly the line coach needs to be termed and replaced.

Instate recruiting hurts the program more than we realize. We gotta be perfect in our evaluations on recruits because the depth from instate just isn’t sufficient to sustain us.

Sounds like he’s sewing the seeds of his demise to be honest. He needs these inherited players to play well for him to keep the crazies at bay. Another year like this year and he’s really going to be up against it. Hard to recruit into that void without long term backing from the administration (which I wish they would provide - we gotta give someone here some time).

No, he’s giving himself a chance. Got to purge these guys with a losers mentality out. Look at how hard JJ and guys like Ty and even Jordan play. Look at Taylor busting his butt to catch someone even when game is over. That’s playing the right way even when getting beat. Even Jamire getting thrown out was someone being pissed at losing. It was stupid but he did show some fire. He didn’t like what was happening and wanted to hit something. We need more desire like those guys have.

Yep. Everyone freaking out on the non-pursuit of instate players should take a look at the roster and contributors.

Give me the best, and good luck to the rest

If Tennessee was an easy place to win at, Dooley and Butch both would have had at least one 10 win season. Bama was down for a long while but never went more than three or four years without winning 10. UF is in a rut but churns out NFL draft picks and 10 win seasons with ease. We’ve fallen further than any other top tier SEC program has going back 50 or more years. It’s because you can’t win here the same way you used to and as fans we have to see this reality.

Well guys I really got to take a break. I’ve spent way too many offseasons on this site trying to peer into the future of the Vols through recruiting, rumors and practice reports and I’ve learned after all of it that I have no idea how things will go and that Saturdays in the fall are the best indicator of the health of the program.

I’m going to post my final thoughts here and then block this site and peace out for a long while.

No need for that.

As long as we play Bama every year, this is exactly right. For the past 5-10 years, this program does not belong in the SEC.

I predict we are much more likely to see games with 50,000 or so fans in the seats at gametime than we are to win another SEC title.

I want be able to sleep tonight wanting on your final thoughts.

Couldn’t remember Vaughn from recruiting

There are probably about 100 players we follow every year and the memory bank begins to delete some

That's Butchs for you. He slow played the guys that ended up good like amadi, joe Juan, josh smith, Vaughn. Then took the losers.

I think the biggest indictment on how bad the defensive players Pruitt inherited were is Bob Shoop had the 86th ranked defense with them and in 1 yr has the top defense at miss st with better developed players in strength program and players that just play with a chip on shoulder. Clearly they are losers if they can't give their all for Pruitt and Shoop

Fellas I'm 100% on board with Jeremy. It's just going to take time. It's almost like it's just going to have to be a Majors like rebuild. Will be following recruiting very closely in the coming months. We need a roster flip to say the least.
Wow first time I actually agree with you lol.

A lot of people are saying we need to cut dead weight and purge and build depth. But I seen a lot of ****** sloppy poor play from starters the past few weeks. DK. Bituli. Warrior. Et cetera.

The reason we're down is because we haven't hired coaches capable of coaching at this level. When a desperate AD bargain-hires guys like Derek Dooley and Butch Jones, neither of whom had the experience, the skills or the chops to recruit, develop and win at a program like UT, you get exactly what we have seen. Garbage in, garbage out. Unfortunately, we're still in the weeding garbage out phase.
