That is one thing i can proudly say i never once took the bait on. He is awful and would’ve been maybe the worst hire we could’ve made lol.

The coaching search just kept getting worse. At the beginning I would have wanted to riot if I found out we were hiring Gundy or even Leach. Then after the Schiano debacle they looked like amazing candidates. Then Doeren was floated around and I wanted to just keep Butch. Then Steele was about to be "trotted out" and I wanted Doeren. We got extremely lucky to land Jeremy Pruitt.

In the offseason Cole Cubelic said Tennessee is basically the hardest job in the SEC. The fan expectations are enormous and the fanbase is highly combustible and will turn on you quickly. The administration is bogged down by infighting and instability. The instate talent is solid but not sufficient to sustain the program at at least a mediocre level in down times (unlike Florida, etc). And new coaches usually inherit a miserable roster in the face of all these negative headwinds.

After watching the coaching search (No one on any of our top 10 lists was remotely interested) and how this season has gone and how many people are looking for reasons to turn on Pruitt and this coaching staff so soon, I think he’s probably right.

I don’t know i disagree with that. Florida is firing coaches after division titles and double digit win seasons. Georgia is firing right after 10 wins, lsu the same with les miles.

All were asking for is just a seccg appearance and a good bowl lol.

Yeah, I fell for it hook, line and sinker.

Part of me believes he wasn’t as bad at the job as it seems now and that at the last minute he was told to go with Schiano by the people above him. I don’t know.

All I know is the people I talk to were very confident in him going into the search.
Should go into politics. He did an excellent job of telling one group what he was doing or how he was going about it only to not be doing any of that while taking his cue from Jimmy. The sad part is most of his actual searching happened after Schiano.

Lol it was such a roller coaster of emotions.

Don't really disagree but that is ironic coming from an Auburn guy.

Tennessee is a place where if it were possible, it could be viewed as a hidden gem in the coaching world. Great proximity to talent, great facilities, beautiful campus. Hasn’t been consistently good in a while so there’s a chance to distinguish yourself. People have won big here before.

But the problem is that it has millions of rabid fans, many of whom watch and love to second guess every move. It has a local media presence that rivals an NFL team that is constantly drumming around for content both good and bad to pass off to that rabid fanbase. And the traditional schedule is terrible, as it is frontloaded with elite inconference programs and has a permanent game against Bama in a series our fans expect to turn quickly (and smugly believe we will win 7 straight against soon just like before - “it’s streaky!”).

I can see the hesitancy to put your career on the line to step into this volatile mess.

I think that is what Currie faced as much as anything.

I think many people don't even realize the lengths he and haslam went to pull off that stunt. Wasted a lot of big money peoples time and jerked board member around. Conference calls full of lies of progress with certain candidate he wasn't even dealing with. There is a reason the outrage was so strong. Media likes to blame fans for the revolt but we were just the face. The real reason things changed was the guys in the background had enough and were extremely pissed at the shady ways they tried to basically steal their money. They don't change their hire because if fans. They changed it because the money was about to be gone

"Vols fighting for Vandy's respect, reversing rivalry's 'embarrassing' skid"

Would you say this title triggers you guys?
While I appreciate the info Simonton brings, at the end of the day he's still gator trash. I'm sure he would love nothing more than for the Vols to lose Saturday.

That makes sense. If the money people had been okay with the hire, the Schiano protests by the fans wouldn't have amounted to squat and he would be here with a 3-8 record right now.

Wasn't it Condredge Holloway who leaked the hire to the media to get the backlash started up before it could be made officially official?

Well, what we have now is a bonafide football coach who is one of the best defensive minds in all of college football. Oh, and he brought in arguably the best staff in the SEC to develop our players. Papaw Phil saved the day

I think Pruitt is all football and he has a solid staff. Whether Phil saved the day may be a little premature at this point. Early returns look pretty good but there are several steps yet to be taken.

I'm still kinda shocked that the SchiaNO protests worked. How crazy is that? It was a done deal and the fans said "WTF hell no" and then it wasn't a done deal anymore.
I’ll never forget that day. 99% of the people I talked to or the posts I read here were either fighting mad or completely apathetic. Half were going to fight to stop it and the other half were going to give up their fandom. It was truly the worst possible hire that could have been made.

Blood thinners during pregnancy is pretty dangerous though

It’s not been a big deal. Obviously, if something traumatic where to happen (God PLEASE forbid), it could be deadly, but with our little girl (second child), we had no issues. On third baby now, things are going well. It’s a risk you have to take, but we are probably done after this one based on my wife’s recent displeasure lol.

Waking up after 8 hours of coaching search was some of the most amazing interwebs I’ve ever experienced.

Crazy times in that search. I own it, I was not high on Pruitt at that point in October. Then November came and I realized it was between Pruitt, panic attack Steele, and the DC from UGA that wasn’t as good of a DC or recruiter as Pruitt and my opinion changed real quick. The more I learn about CJP the more I liked though.

If we had signed Doeren, I don't know if I could appropriately express my level of apathy.

/r/cfb was like "He's the most proven option. Y'all should love a Doeren hire" and I'm like, he's proven like Kia is a proven car. No tf thanks.

Hiring Doeren would have been a full-on admittance of defeat as an SEC program. He is Butch Jones 2.0.

This has been a fun trip down memory lane. That time was horrendous but my God this site was lit as ****. The Bruce Arians and Royal Rumble gif will make me laugh until the day I die.

I too am still in shock that raging fans actually turned back a coaching hire at an SEC program. Never would have even considered the possibility.
