If the coaches aren't all in for making a bowl that is a major problem
I don't buy it
boomELEVEN GAMES IN, I THINK PRUITT GETS IT DONE HERE
Others may disagree, and this is nothing but conjecture right now, but I’ll be very surprised if Pruitt doesn’t turn this thing around and have success here in Knoxville. Will that be evident in 2019? I’m not sure but I think you’re going to see tangible signs of progress in Year Two.
I’ll also caution that given the state of this roster, at least in my opinion, people shouldn’t expect a miracle next fall, but I think the Vols will be better simply from being in the same system —and with the same strength and conditioning coach— for the second straight year.
It certainly seems feels like some help is on the way from the recruiting trail, but seasoned SEC fans know that the kind of help Tennessee needs isn’t going to come in the form of freshman. It’s going to come from the current youngsters and those on the way getting in Pruitt’s program and developing.
Personally, I think the two wins over Auburn and Kentucky say a great deal about the Vols’ head coach. Snagging two wins over ranked, SEC opponents with this team is a mark of someone who can coach football. At least in my mind.
I’ve certainly seen enough from Pruitt to feel like he can command the respect of a locker room filled with 18-22 year old guys from disparate backgrounds. I’ve also seen enough to feel like he doesn’t waste an ounce of energy worrying about things that don’t factor into to winning football games
He’s a no nonsense, old school football coach and very clearly someone who is comfortable wearing the mantle of leadership. We won’t have a definitive answer for awhile, but after watching him go about his business for 10 games and nearly a year on the job, I think Tennessee has themselves a coach.
If you're referring to my comment, my point was that if the Liberty Bowl didn't want UT, going to a meaningless bottom bowl would be of minimal benefit for recruiting. Recruiting is the path forward and the Liberty Bowl helps that. Partying in Birmingham might be fun for fans, but it isn't high-value for recruiting.
Before the season I thought that we had more talent than we do. And perhaps at one point those guys were talented when they came in as freshmen. But, some of them were clearly overrated. The others, they were not properly developed either in football or S&C. Those comments about practice explain one reason why we have been so soft. But, the new guys coming in will have no experience with intern level coaching. I still look to 2020, if Pruitt recruits as well as it looks like he will, as a year when we will compete at a high level. But as long as Fulmer feels like he's the guy, we should give him as much time as he needs. Don't need or want another coaching search.Saw that LWS confirmed what I said a month or so ago about the talent on our roster and what it would take for this program to get better. Can't remember who it was, but someone had a debate with me a month or so ago about the talent on our roster and whether Fulmer/Pruitt understood what it looked like. Then, Pruitt's comments about how the team practiced when he got here further confirms it all.
Top three in the east and 3rd in the east. Same difference.I didn't say third team in the east, at least that's not what I meant. What I meant was being in the group of three with FL and GA and competing for the east and winning it. I'm not saying they're not capable what I'm saying is I've seen nothing that gives me confidence that they will.
I think they've done about what they should have this year. Nothing terrible but nothing great. Sure they beat ranked KY and Auburn but they were not competitive against FL and Mizzou being blown out at home. I've not seen anything that makes me say wow, these guys are the real deal. Maybe you have but I've not. That doesn't mean I want them fired or anything stupid like that. I think the season has been meh at best.
I've already put this season in the rear view mirror. If we beat Vandy and make a bowl, that won't change much but will appreciate the accomplishment of the season from last year, especially if they win the bowl, regardless of opponent.
My focus will move to recruiting as that's the most important part at this point to bringing a competitive team back.
This post is right on. Pretty good chance you're a bozo if you think a 5-7 season with a loss to Vanderbilt is a success. It's so funny how sooo many people here say they are in a wait and see mode all year but when areas of legit concerns are expressed that's somehow being anti coaching staff.
The simple fact is this years success or failure is riding on Saturday. If we win it's been a good year and that will give the staff some motmemtum going forward and much needed extra practice
If we lose this season is a failure anyway you look at it.
Either way the success overall of Pruitt isn't going to be defined by year1. He simply gets more patience if year 1 is a success.
You guys can call it whatever you want but that isn't being a nega in my mind
Any player who feels like losing to Vanderbilt is just another loss should be kicked off the team immediately. Down right embarrassing losing to those bozos. If the Liberty Bowl wasn't so eager to invite UT, I think the staff would be okay ending the season and focusing on recruiting. But Memphis is key for recruiting and the coaches want to strengthen our foothold in West TN. And Pruitt has noted several times how important beating Vandy is for Tennessee fans. Most of the players are used to losing to Vandy-- would be just another L to some of them.
Never said that. Sorry that i think a Coach with a above 500 record at multiple stops in D1 is qualified enough to coach a middle school team. I don’t hold a personal vendetta against butch like you do. It’s honestly kind of weird.
But you have been telling us all season that KC is a superior QB to JG. It pretty much sums up your lack of football knowledge. You probably shouldn't post anymore because you continue to validate my point.

The fact that you are writing any player off at any position after basically one bad half, shows that you are too immature to really bring anything to this board. Maybe freak will start a Fortnite thread or something and then you can be a respected poster there. Until then, the ignore button is always one click away bud.
...dude isn't very good at football, couldn't win the job at Stanford or Tennessee as the upperclassmen in both scenarios. I'm writing him off not because of one half but because throughout the entire process the staff hasn't thought he was better, not at practice, in scrimmages, or anywhere else, that half just helps validate what I and the majority of Vol fans have thought all along. The fact that you are writing any player off at any position after basically one bad half, shows that you are too immature to really bring anything to this board.
