Makes you wonder what that conversation with Pruitt and Helton was before he was hired. Pruitt wanted only Helton for OC and UT ponied up. And now they don't always seem on the same page. The Vandy game will be interesting.
Yea and how Helton started in the booth now he’s right beside Pruitt.
yep.

and i'll only say this about Helton's future, cause it's hard for me to say he should or should not be retained.....but as y'all have pointed out, there seems to be some level of accountability here for helton....but if he is not the answer, then i think you have to let him fail.

meaning, let him call the game the way he would/wants to. he knows by now what is or isn't acceptable, fundamentally what pruitt wants. he knows the personnel and their limitations, and strengths.........

let him go do it. if he fails, he fails and you get your answer. if he's successful, don't we all win?

i mean, that is if there really is any serious questions about his future here, in pruitt's mind.

Did anyone else think this game on defense was similar to the WV game? We brought a lot of DB blitzes in the 2nd half, and got burned every time. We didn't match up well vs mizzou @ all. The offense stalling on the first few drives killed us. Gonna take time and recruiting.....lots of it.

yes, i thought it was a mirror image of the WVU game. really good QB with options at the skill positions around him, and a defenseive front that's good enough. and like WVU game, Locke was dropping dimes and getting it out quick.

it was a very similar match up, with, unfortunately, similar results.

i do think losing JG as early as we did had a big impact. i was anxious to see if his and the OLine's apparent improvement could keep pace with an offense like that.

obviously that didn't pan out.

Clay is going to get fired. SC is 5-6, just got beat by UCLA, and will probably be blown out by ND. That is unless you were making an unemployment joke
He might but if not I think he will shake up his staff and bring his brother home. I don't think it's a forgone conclusion that he gets fired.

if Tyson is as bad as you all think he is, why on earth would he be offered a job to come fix another P5 programs' problems?

i mean i get it, he's his brother...........but can you imaging Clay coming in and saying "i've got a plan to fix this....have you met my brother, Tyson?"

if he's that bad here, why would the USCw brass let that suffice as a suitable corrective action for USCw's woes???

if we have as many defections as some are half way predicting, while that helps with the roster turnover, it makes us really really young, and probably adds more time to the rebuild.

UGA is playing 2/3 FR and SO in the two-deep and many more in the threes. I could see us in a similar scenario next year. Better ROI developing FR than JRs and SRs who are underdeveloped. The FR don't come with baggage, are likely to be more coachable and have more years to contribute. It could actually jumpstart the rebuild to replace complacent and unmotivated players with motivated ones who take pride in their performance and are eager to win.

Barton Simmons said it’s when not if. Could be wrong but I’ll be pretty shocked if he isn’t gone here in a week or so. 5-7 at SC with all that talent is unacceptable

Brother or not, USC would have to pony up more than the $1.2m I am making at UT for me to leave an up and coming program for a program looking like a dumpster fire.

oh, i agree with all that. but freshmen are freshmen. and again, UGA had the # 1 class in the country. i'd say they were in a position the last two years to play freshmen because they CAN play vs. have to play.

if we have a bunch of defections this off season, we'll be playing freshmen because we have to.

that's all i'm getting at really.........

If both teams are 5-7 and Clay Helton is retained, it’d be hard to differentiate between the two. Helton might consider his seat here just as hot.

A lot of coaches have head coaching experience when they take a new job. You can look at that experience and draw from it. With these coaches, we have none at the head coach or coordinators. Like ive said, i don't have confidence that they'll get us back and at the same time I don't have a reason to say they won't which is why I'm not giving up on them.

Despite my best efforts to quell them, thoughts crept into my head sometime in year two that Butch wasn't going to make it. I tend to listen to those thoughts a little more these days.

I get that. I'm fully on the prove it to me train. I was no matter who they hired. Year one is just such a tough nut to crack. So many great coaches do relatively poorly in year one. And then others do well in year one and flame out.

Seeing flashes against Auburn and Kentucky gives me hope. South Carolina feels like the one that got away. Every coach loses games they shouldn't. We'll see how it plays out. Vanderbilt feels winnable.

Depends on the hire. I mean if I'm coming in as a new OC and I'm trying to talk JG into staying, I'm saying my first priority is to not get you killed.

Well, if Helton is gone, then going the Freeze route (or someone of that ilk) would be a huge mistake if Pruitt really values the ball control offense. Might be hard to find someone like that these days.

Maybe Al Saunders would come back. We ran the playbook he installed in 1982 for almost 25 years.

We're going to take our lumps, that's for sure. I just think PruittCo will have less resistance and more effort with young players and that will ultimately help the rebuild. We'll see.
