2018 Midterm Election Thread

No one with a lick of intelligence would suggest that she believes agriculture is not important in GA. That's the perfect example of the rights's misinformation tactics. Just like she's going to take all the guns.
She sponsored a bill that involved gun confiscation.

She stated dismissively in a speech in Statesboro that people shouldn't have to rely on agriculture and hospitality jobs to make a living.

It's her past to own.

I think they've latched onto it because it's easy to exaggerate and twist.

There are areas of Exact Match where reasonable people can disagree. The notion that Kemp himself created this is laughable. The law has been around since 2010.
His refusal to recuse as Secretary of State is what bothers me the most about him. Nobody should ever have the duty of supervising an election for which they are on the ballot. That's just common sense.

How would a Secretary of State ever run for re-election?

Yeah, but Oprah campaigned for her.

I think they're pretty much the same regardless. Lob negative character attacks; exaggerate misstatements; reinforce the partisans and create turnout.
I'm learning that the only way to be an intelligent right leaning moderate is to convince yourself that those types of things are roughly equal.

There we were, having a civil conversation, then luther went full potato.

That in no way means she thinks agriculture is not important in GA which is what squints claimed.,,,goes to show
Not sure about the bill she sponsored but I'm sure there are people who should have their guns confiscated.

Out comes the race card.
Is that what you consider "playing the race card"? I think that claim may be more overused than the race card itself.
Just noticed many have attributed some of the same qualities to Michelle and Abrams.

John Lewis’s speech get you stirred up, Luth?

It's not important, because Oprah said Abrams is an angel. That's all that really matters. That, and she's a black woman as you just mentioned. She checks the three major boxes. Oprah - check. Woman - check. African-American - check.

Her remarks are being mischaracterized slightly. Ive seen them in context. What it actually was was a dog whistle to minorities who work agriculture and hotel jobs effectively saying "nevermind that you're low skilled. Vote for me and you'll automatically get a better job."

As far as the gun confiscatio. It's HB731 from a couple of years ago.

Was it that or simply encouraging young black people to be ambitious with their career goals? Regardless, I don't see that as disparaging to the industry itself.

Is she going to try to take any type / style of gun from Americans ?

I think it was a case where she needed to articulate it better than "nobody should have to rely on agriculture or hospitality jobs". No politician in their right mind disparages farmers while standing in south GA.

Considering it’s the back bone of the country.

Senate Races Tightening - Democrats May Take Senate And The House

As the electrifying, no-holds-barred battle for Congress in the 2018 midterm elections campaign comes to a close, Democrats appear poised to win back the House of Representatives.

Ramping up the drama, a slew of tightening polls indicate that the Senate might also drift away from Republicans if all the dominoes fall towards the opposition party on Tuesday.

While polling analysts still forecast the Senate to remain in GOP control, some surveys indicate nail-biting contests in key states in the final days before Nov. 6. In wave elections, close races often end up tilting the same way - that is what Democrats hope for this year.

In the Senate battle in recent weeks, Republicans have been confident of winning North Dakota but concede that Nevada and Arizona could go to the Democrats, making the chamber evenly balanced on 50 seats each but still in GOP control because of the tie-breaking vote of Vice President Mike Pence.

That, however, was before new polls in TENNESSEE - the "firewall" state for Republicans - dead level. If Democrats cling on in Florida, Missouri and Indiana, where their incumbents have faced tough fights and an energized Republican base loyal to President Trump, then it could all come down to the Volunteer State.
