Recruiting Forum Football Talk [RIP 9.3.2019]

We apparently got a silent commit. Tino tweeted a boom mentioning build in silience so they don't know what to attack

I Initially thought the idea of silents was a corny Butch Jones thing. Then I came to realize some recruits like them so they can have their special day to declare. But getting them so others can’t peal them away is honestly something I’ve not thought much about. What does that kid say to Bama when they call? Thanks, but I’m seeing someone else?

They say how much?

Calling it a "dumbarse comment" doesn't make it untrue. We've done nothing since 1998, but the "LOL IT FEELS LIKE 98 BOYS" stuff is still proudly touted and paraded around by fans and the administrators. We haven't been nationally relevant at the end of a season since 2001 and we crapped the bed that year. But sure, Tennessee is still a powerhouse and all of that feel good stuff.
When did you become so damn negative? You didn't used to be like that.

I mean let's think about this for a second...we are actually missing Kongbo and Abernathy.

Richmond all of sudden our best OL. Alexis our best DL. Phillips making big plays. 2 WRs becoming studs at CB. Buchanon becoming reliable at Star.

Wtf is happening? Are we developing football players again? Amazing some idiots think this staff can't coach because they are looking at a record

Development is going well. I was just down on Helton after the UF game. That was not a well called game. But as I stated then, coaches can improve, too, and it appears that he has. Good for him.

Last week was there for the taking, but things are looking positive. I just want to get to 6 wins.

There is middle ground here. We went to the SECCG in 2004 and 2007, but we were so spoiled by Fulmer's previous success that 3/4 losses and a loss in the SECCG wasn't good enough. We were nationally relevant then. We beat UGA both those years and beat UF in 2004. We would take those years in a heart beat right now.

TKJr has knee issues, ankle issues-- his legs are just shot. There was always a question how much these chronically injured players like TK, DK and Chance Hall would be able to contribute. Now we know. But they work hard and are giving all they have, which is more than others are doing. It's unfortunate that some guys willing to put in full effort can't play at the level they want. That goes for Trey Smith, too. He played on a sore ankle most of the season without taking a game off, because the team needed him.

Some of these players will never be the same, and it’s totally on Butch. No S&C program for 2 years, injures all over the team because of it. No leadership to demand kids do the workouts. It’s really sad because some of these players could have made the NFL.

USCe did two things that were different than what we were expecting, and what we faced against a team like auburn.

the did go up tempo, which Auburn can/will do at times, but for USCe that was different....

the other thing was running the i formation with the two TE sets. htey'd put two te's on the same side, and still run the I.

they were getting to the 2nd level of our defense and we didn't come off blocks well at all, and we still saw the same issues with tackling we've had.

and we didn't really adjust to it all that great either.

I would respectfully ask--What adjustments would you have made? I'm not being sarcastic--just really asking.

We ran both 4-2-5 and 3-4 looks against them....we did a lot of slanting (DL) and corner blitzes....but blitzing your corner may stop the outside runs, but cannot help you when you're getting blown off the ball between the tackles.

IF you decide to walk a Safety down into the box and load it with 8.....then you're inviting USCe to throw it over your head...which they did anyway.

So--what adjustments do you think CJP could've made with the players that he has?

Lack of player development. Imagine Croom under Pruitt and this staff, He was greatly under used under Butch. And now he is the starting TE for the bills.

None mid-game because you can't fix not being big enough on edge or fast enough at Lb mid game. I'd like to see him adjust these next 2 wks though by getting Biltuli and Peterson run at OLB to get some size there. Maybe even give Kivon a chance since he has been practicing there. Johnson clearly needs to be a rotational guy not full time guy

honestly, i don't know. i was just saying i didn't think we did much to adjust. and Pruitt didn't really elaborate on it when discussing it in his press conference yesterday....

i think the biggest thing i took away from it was the mismatch their personnel in that set had against our personnel, specifically the LB's.

so i'm inclined to say, there may not be much we can do except get some better players......lol.

Guys like Barnett & Dobbs took responsibility for their own development, so I would call that leadership. Why didn't the other guys follow along? it was their choice not to make an effort on S&C.

Barnett motor was on the field. Not sure how much weight lifting he did while at TN because he never looked like he was a consistent weight room guy. He improved his body once he left and got with NFL trainers

Don't you know that you can't blame young people for their lack of responsibility. Geez. Where have you been? It has to be the parents fault or the teachers fault.;)

Maybe it's the teachers parents fault.

Thank you, sir. That's honestly the only thing that I see when I watch our defense play.

Pruitt did say Sunday on his show that USCe was winning the game along the LOS and dominating us with 1 on 1 blocking. It honestly doesn't matter what formation you line up in when you accomplish that.

Bentley said in the post-game presser that our D keeps 2 deep Safeties...so they knew that the running game would work. That was their game plan. And it worked all game long. They ran the ball in the first half very well--so our depth was not the issue. We got a turnover once and scored. And didn't turn the ball over. WE did make a bunch of "unforced errors"....Pruitt did say 8 of our 9 penalties were self-inflicted.

Defensively--I want to see Banks play the entire game at ILB for #34 against Charlotte. There's just NO WAY he could play any worse.
Losing Flowers at Safety really hurt us....I hope 22 is back at Safety for the last 3 games....24 just can't play.... I wonder why we are not playing Theo Jackson more--he's played some in earlier games....but he can't play any worse than 24.

What makes it so frustrating for me is that we could've and should've won that game. We just didn't get any points on our last 2 possessions....

Personally--I wanted CJP to allow Cimaglia a chance to tie the game with a 52 yard FG attempt in the 4th QTR....that's the only coaching decision that I question.

GO VOLS!
