I domt know if people that question Helton and his play calling have listened to Pruitt s pressers. He said there are 5 guys doing it right on offense. Which means they cant get on the Same page with what he is calling. Imagine if he was to call harder plays. I believe he is calling what he knows the player s have a better shot of executing properly. No way he calls harder plays when they cant even get the assignment s right on what some of you say looks basic. Imo on hearing what coach says.

I agree with Vols4us that calling for someone else is very premature. He is growing just like some of our players. He has shown flashes.

I was just very down on him after the UF game because we showed no creativity. While UK had run on them, they were missing Jefferson and Reese, and their secondary is a weakness. I thought we could have gone to the short passing game. I just didn’t think it was schemed very well. He has gotten better. We will see what he comes up with the rest of the season.

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I can intelligently second-guess the coaches on both sides of the ball even when I'm working on my 10th beer.

To contradict a little bit about what I said, I was seriously questioning the play calling in that Florida game.

And to counter that contradiction, I bet Helton was super pi**ed at the entire offense that game.

remember when a few on here didn’t want this kid back on the team? Sure he should not have said what he said. THAT’S WHO HE HIS!! Dude is passionate all the time. He is the most competitive player on the field guaranteed.

I’m proud of JJ.
Who hasn't said things in passion that we've regretted later?

Let he who is without...,.........

Seems like it went about how it should. They had to do something after that outburst. But given the situation the team was in, you can also kind of forgive Jennings and bring him back in with conditions.

Very much to his credit, he seems to be minding all his p's and q's. And as everyone has already said, he's been great on the field.

Many of the kids transitioning to men need someone to respect in their coaches. Someone that keeps them pointed in the right direction. Doubt there was much in that ilk at the time over there.

Helton was not this predictable at prior stops. I am all for giving the players and coaches time to get on the same page before we throw the book away. We actually threw on 1st down against Bama so there is that. Also our passing attack has been reasonably good considering how putrid our run game has been. This is all without the added wrinkles of a rpo QB.
This is a bit of a misnomer, though, because Helton has never really ran his own system and called his own plays.

Also, you don't necessarily need a DT QB to run RPOs. You just need someone who can make the right decision quickly.

Should’ve been suspended then let the new coach handle from there.

Which “elite proven OC” would leave his current situation for anything other than a HC gig?
Fair question. Didn't say it would be easy. But it would have been possible to get one with an offer of AHC/OC with enough money, or at least someone more experienced and proven than Helton.

Can you give me a successful example? LSU tried that route with Matt Canada...so I’m familiar with failed examples.

This is our FIRST year under Helton, and we're trying to run a power offense with players than were recruited to run the spread. Let's give him some time to figure it out before we fire him. One of our biggest problems in the past has been a lack on continuity.

Doesn’t really work that way.

When someone interviews for the head coach position they tell the school who they would target for their coordinators/assistants. Then the school makes their decision based on that information.

If you force Jeremy Pruitt to hire Coach X in the interview you might either have to pay him more to do so or he may decline the job offer.

I was criticizing Pruitts judgment. I'm aware that the coach chooses his coordinator.

Butch was getting decent results with guys who knew and had worked with him. When he started changing it up and yes, some of us wanted him to do so, then things went sideways real fast. Was always a poor game day coach.
