The QB Debate.... Post Bama (merged)

A lot of JG fans are enamored with his cage match toughness, he has that in spades. But in the SEC no QB should expect 4-5-6 secs to decide where to throw the ball. That is JGs weakness, was last year and is again showing itself this year.

Except he rarely gets over 2 seconds to throw. On the fumble, bama sent 5 against 5 blockers. LG thought it best to block nobody. There's no way that a qb can overcome that.

JG may be better at one point but it’s obvious Chryst is a much calmer and better QB right now.

He needs to start from here on out.

I know it’s only been about a quarter but he is much more poised and the game is much slower for him. A blind man can see it.

He has only played one half. But if he can put some numbers on Bama's D, then he can do it on anybody. Our O line won't give JG the time, so we just need very quick release and accuracy. If Chryst can do that and avoid the sack, then yes he should start. JG will just get more hurt. But he is probably out for the season with a fracture of collar, rotator cuff, or ribs. But that's just my opinion from what I have seen on T.V.

Based on the hit he took. If so, he probably doesn’t see the field again the rest of the year. Sucks, but Chryst at least looked good in backup duty

JG might be tough but I question his awareness at best. Maybe even his vision. He takes a beating because he can’t feel the pressure nor recognize when a blitz is coming. I like him but he won’t survive all season if he keeps it up. Hopefully he’s okay.

JG is not the problem. Alabama is not the team to be judging our performance off of. JG proved himself last week against Auburn. I'm hurting as bad or worse than anyone, but let's not be idiots and turn on JG. He is the future I hope he isn't severely injured...

Unabated to the QB most of the day. JG took a serious hit I can believe he may have suffered a broken collarbone. I hope it is not true but he took a vicious beating today.

Right now, KC is better. Even before being injured, JG was getting frustrated, and it was starting to show. Not his fault, our OL is simply a sieve against a defense of this quality.

But generally, JG is the better QB. Not taking anything away from Keller, he's playing very well. He hasn't taken all the sacks and near-sacks, and he looks calm and confident. Throwing it well, as a result.

Let's just don't jinx him and get him blasted, too. No one plays well with a jack hammer repeatedly pounding them in the face.
Decision making is the difference. KC sees blitzes and makes the throw. JG takes the hit. It isn't just the OL. JG has to see some of those blitzes coming and anticipate where someone will be open. He is still struggling with that.

It doesn't have anything to do with being "jinxed". KC "sees" things that cause JG problems.

It isn't just Bama. Auburn was better but JG still struggles with decisions and reads. That's why he gets hit so often. Bama didn't stop trying when KC went in. They still blitzed and some guys weren't picked up. He did the QB's job and accounted for them.

Stop troll

I agree. Chryst is better at making earlier decisions when to throw the ball than JG. I doubt we would have scored two offensive touchdowns if Chryst was not on the field. I'm not bashing JG because he is a tough kid. It's obvious Chryst has more game time experience in his career.

Starting against the number 1 team in the nation is the very definition of a playing in Big Game. How you don’t realize that is mind baffling.

How does a team that has lost 12 of 13 sec games suddenly find themselves in a big game? They could play the 85 Bears and would that make it a big game?

Can we judge him on the games before Auburn? Why didn't he prove himself against Florida or Georgia?

Maybe he doesn't recognize pressure because he reads 5 rushers and he has 5 blockers so he should have 3+ seconds. Our biggest problem all year is the line not picking up the 5th rusher and giving up a free shot on the qb. There's nothing a qb can do because the d didn't have to go 0 cover to do this. It's frustrating that the line has not improved to this point, especially when your LT is a stud.
