I think you’re missing the point of my question. I understand managing the clock, and I understand how the clock works, but we ran the ball every first down (I think) in the second half. Typically followed by some sort of short pass on second down, then faced a third and moderate or long. Thankfully, the players converted many of those.

Seems you could mix in one of the short passes on first down, followed by a run call on second down. The question makes sense in my brain - and maybe that’s my problem. I’ll drop it.

There is no doubt that we won't convert that many third and longs in other games. Percentages just say otherwise. I thought the play calling was much better, but we did get conservative again at times. Hopefully, this game gives the offensive coaches more confidence in JG. Even if we run, I just wish we would mix it up a bit. We need new wrinkles from just the stretch run and toss sweep.

Can we be as good next year losing all the guys upfront?

I am not sure we can

I think it could even out, Bc our secondary should be top 3 in the conference. So DL/passrush May even out or take step back but we should be able to pick up the slack with our secondary

Maybe not, but I am more confident that Pruitt can figure that out. Our previous staffs could not.

But, we just need a few guys to develop- Butler, Emerson, Mincey, Garland. Hopefully, Williams and Middleton can come in and play right away.

I misunderstood then. I thought you were asking about the possessions close to the end....carry on.

We just have to hope we hit on these JUCO's and that they will be able to be plug and play. Gooden will have game reps under his belt and guys like Butler, Bennett, Mincey, Emerson have to emerge. If Savion Williams and Middleton can contribute I think we will be ok.

Darrell Taylor should be ready for a big season next year.

JG and the WRs had to have earned the coaches' trust. They executed at a high level. But I'm guessing they'll dial it back against Bama and try to get the running game going. Hope Helton stays on the sideline. He'd rather call plays from the box, but it helped having him interact with the players.

We are losing Kyle Phillips, Alexis Johnson, Kongbo, Shy Tuttle and Paul Bain. Most sane people weren't that excited about this group of names going into this season.

I think Gooden (Sr)/Emerson (SO)/Darrell Taylor (SR)/ DeAndre Johnson (JR) is still a pretty solid looking front. Plus we haven't seen that much of guys like John Mincey, Kivon Bennett, Kurott Garland, Matthew Butler. They're all going to keep developing behind the scenes.

I think we have some coaches that are gonna get more out of these dudes than we're used to seeing.

And don't forget the incoming class. Savion Williams will likely make some noise when he gets here. And maybe Middleton.

That's not including any true freshman that could come in and contribute right away. Who knows what that list is gonna end up looking like by the time signing day gets here.

I bet we'll be able to piece it together nicely. It may take a couple of years before this unit is a dominant one on this team tho.

Also this is a problem to worry about later. We gotta figure out what jokes we're gonna crack to our Alabama friends after we sweep the state this weekend.

In high school we were always taught to engage the hips first, even on those running back 'roll' blocks. It may have even been a rule that you couldent target knees, which Id be in favor of extending to College.

Help me out here. It appeared to me that Bain played significantly more than Gooden.

Are they playing the same position?

Anyone have the snaps played for those two guys? I assume PFF will have that stat

We were getting something like either 1.6 or 1.9 yards per carry against Auburn (I forget which). I don't think we'll get much better against Alabama. That said, we can't completely give up on running the ball or we really will get JG killed. I would like to see us run a little less tho. Substituting short throws seems to be working better than trying to run between the tackles. I liked that they found new ways to get the ball to Chandler (I hope they keep that up).

Yes. I'd like to get to the other games without any more injuries and be able to build on the upset immediately instead of having to wait.

Hah I didn't explain my joke very well. I was trying to make it sound like Bama wished they had a few more teams they could beat up on before they ran into us (the real meat grinder).
