I think you’re missing the point of my question. I understand managing the clock, and I understand how the clock works, but we ran the ball every first down (I think) in the second half. Typically followed by some sort of short pass on second down, then faced a third and moderate or long. Thankfully, the players converted many of those.
Seems you could mix in one of the short passes on first down, followed by a run call on second down. The question makes sense in my brain - and maybe that’s my problem. I’ll drop it.
There is no doubt that we won't convert that many third and longs in other games. Percentages just say otherwise. I thought the play calling was much better, but we did get conservative again at times. Hopefully, this game gives the offensive coaches more confidence in JG. Even if we run, I just wish we would mix it up a bit. We need new wrinkles from just the stretch run and toss sweep.
