He does suck. Don’t let the pumpers tell you otherwise. We have a large enough sample size. JG is not good
At this level, he's a below average to bad football coach. I don't think anyone who's legitimately in tune with college football today would say that Jones is a good football coach. Good recruiter, yes, but even that was a bit overrated. Part of being a good recruiter is being able to evaluate talent, and being able to recruit to the needs of your roster. Both of which he sucked ass. I don't think there's any arguing that he did way less with more in his last three seasons here. That’s just a lazy take. Did cincinatti win all their games in spite of him too?
No to what? He's a below average to bad football coach at this level. That team beat Florida in spite of him.
Isn't he the one that moved JJ Watt to tight end? Guy was piss poor when it came to handling personnel. That's the caveat.
I think a mid-major C-USA/MAC school is his spot.
Smaller schools allow you to be weirder and more exotic with your X's and O's. You're also going to get maybe a more "realistic" type of player, who knows it's not a given that you're gonna get NFL scouts at every practice. The Antonio Browns and Eric Fishers can work their tails off and get there, but most of the players are there for free schooling.
Butch was trying to finesse a power league. He also overpromised on the recruiting trail and mismanaged egos.
Can't do that with big-time football programs.

That caller, "Marty from the Ozarks" was spoofing the Netflix show "Ozark" (lead character is named "Marty Bird" played by Jason Bateman). The caller also made a shout out to a kid named "Wyatt Langmore" who was having an 'excellent season for his HS team.' Wyatt Langmore is another character on the show. None of Hubbs, Kesling or Pruitt got the reference or understood the joke.
He built a pretty good roster that under achieved for two years with some NFL players on there.
Dobbs, Hurd, Kamara, Kelly, Malone, Barnett, Sutton, JRM, and Gaulden is a pretty damn good core. Is he a good or great coach...no. Things unraveled here and ended bad quickly but for two years he gave us a roster that could beat anyone except bama.
If i was a mid level P5 school like say NC state, Maryland, Kansas state etc. i would definitely give butch a call.
