Saying that a team you coached to 4-8 should go 8-4 with a new coach is so dumb that I believe Jones is indeed telling people that.
It was either LA Vol or Atlanta or some guy who's "in the know" said that Jones was telling a bunch of people that. Guy is a bozo.

He does suck. Don’t let the pumpers tell you otherwise. We have a large enough sample size. JG is not good

People act like the protection is awful on every play. Sometimes the pocket isn’t always clean. A good QB will make plays when things break down. JG just doesn’t make plays.

Time for someone new.

That’s just a lazy take. Did cincinatti win all their games in spite of him too?
At this level, he's a below average to bad football coach. I don't think anyone who's legitimately in tune with college football today would say that Jones is a good football coach. Good recruiter, yes, but even that was a bit overrated. Part of being a good recruiter is being able to evaluate talent, and being able to recruit to the needs of your roster. Both of which he sucked ass. I don't think there's any arguing that he did way less with more in his last three seasons here.

No to what? He's a below average to bad football coach at this level. That team beat Florida in spite of him.

That's the caveat.

I think a mid-major C-USA/MAC school is his spot.

Smaller schools allow you to be weirder and more exotic with your X's and O's. You're also going to get maybe a more "realistic" type of player, who knows it's not a given that you're gonna get NFL scouts at every practice. The Antonio Browns and Eric Fishers can work their tails off and get there, but most of the players are there for free schooling.

Butch was trying to finesse a power league. He also overpromised on the recruiting trail and mismanaged egos.

Can't do that with big-time football programs.

Isn't he the one that moved JJ Watt to tight end? Guy was piss poor when it came to handling personnel.

Yeah, it's a shame. Word on the street is Jones is telling folks that this current Tennessee team should win no less than 8 games, in an effort to undermine the staff.
He better watch his mouth. Pruitt gonna pull a Khabib on his arse.

Agreed

He built a pretty good roster that under achieved for two years with some NFL players on there.

Dobbs, Hurd, Kamara, Kelly, Malone, Barnett, Sutton, JRM, and Gaulden is a pretty damn good core. Is he a good or great coach...no. Things unraveled here and ended bad quickly but for two years he gave us a roster that could beat anyone except bama.

If i was a mid level P5 school like say NC state, Maryland, Kansas state etc. i would definitely give butch a call.

He had Jake, Elder And Lawson there. Things drastically changed when he no longer had 3 key coaches from his Central Michigan and Cjncy day's. Butch is a sell out. Unloyal to Lawson and strip and Jake

That caller, "Marty from the Ozarks" was spoofing the Netflix show "Ozark" (lead character is named "Marty Bird" played by Jason Bateman). The caller also made a shout out to a kid named "Wyatt Langmore" who was having an 'excellent season for his HS team.' Wyatt Langmore is another character on the show. None of Hubbs, Kesling or Pruitt got the reference or understood the joke.

Maybe not; but I loved how he defended Tennessee - the program, his players, his coaches, and his boss!

He lost trust and his locker room and is the ONLY coach in Tennessee history to lose 8 games. Makes him the worse coach ever just on that fact alone.

Watching the '15 Oklahoma game.

That team should of won 12+ games in 15 or 16.... shame.

I don't understand the narrative of Butch Jones leaving the roster in ruins. He was clearly close, and he brought the talent needed. The coaching and play calling was conservative, but that's not new.

Wish we knew what happened to this team. From a fan perspective, something definitely happened between the title 9 lawsuit and Jalen Hurd getting decked prancing across the goal line @ Georgia.

Just hard to believe we went from there to this... [pours another glass]

We still have a top 20 team by composite talent on 247. Hopefully Pruitt can revive these guys. Wish I could find a Dobbs or Evan Berry or Barnett on our roster in this recruiting class...
