I think Dobbs had plenty of moxie, going by Newt’s definition. Jmo
I'll take Casey Clausen over Dobbs any day. Clausen was a winner, Dobbs wasn't.Against bad opponents and UF in 2016, sure. Against good defenses and USCe 2016, Vandy 2016, OU 2015, and Arky 2015 not really.
I'm a huge Dobbs fan. He's easily my favorite player we've had since 2000 and I was always patient that he'd develop even when he struggled as a passer in 2015. But if moxie means "putting the ball in the only place it could be caught WHEN IT COUNTS...putting the team on your shoulders and willing a win," Dobbs wasn't really able to do that consistently until 2016. And it's not like he was the only baller on that offense either and he still had some moments where he couldn't do enough to beat a lesser opponent.
Dude had a great career, no doubt. But Clausen's still the only QB I've watched win two games in the swamp. They called him the iceman for a reason.
We don't have one of those dudes, unfortunately. At least, not that is ready this year. I know you have already said that, just agreeing with you for a change. If you have to surround a QB win great talent to perform then he isn’t a good QB... QB is the ultimate Duck tape position they make bad rosters look better.
there's plenty out there on the topic.Curious to see how confident the fanbase is in Pruitt getting an upset win against a team were not supposed to beat like Auburn, South Carolina or Kentucky.
--Simonton*** The offensive line had a noteworthy swap Tuesday, as sophomore tackle Nathan Niehaus was working with the main group at right guard. Jerome Carvin, who has started all five games at right guard, spent the period with the backup unit at center. Also, Chance Hall continues to take reps with the 2s at left tackle.
*** Senior safety Micah Abernathy was working over on the side, so Shawn Shamburger got the bulk of the run with Nigel Warrior at safety. The Vols also worked on some new combo coverages — with three safeties and two linebackers. Interestingly, Austin Smith, who hasn’t played much at all this season, got some work with the main group.
*** The tight ends worked a lot on combo blocks, as Brian Niedermeyer shouted “it’s like man-to-man defense in basketball.”
*** Coached by Jeremy Pruitt and David Johnson, Tennessee’s wide receivers spent the entire first period working the screen game. Pruitt was really getting on Jauan Jennings, Marquez Callaway and the rest of the group about their blocking on the perimeter.
*** The defensive line spent a period working on Auburn’s wildcat package. Naturally, gap control was a key emphasis by Tracy Rocker.
I'm to the point where I'm pretty much giving everyone a pass this year as far as the W-L record goes. I'm just interested in seeing how the whole team comes along top to bottom. I'm liking where we're at for the most part development wise on defense. Inexperience is showing for the offense on multiple levels though IMO. Growth and development there from the players and staff is a must.Curious to see how confident the fanbase is in Pruitt getting an upset win against a team were not supposed to beat like Auburn, South Carolina or Kentucky.
