I think a lot of coaches could be getting more from this roster, including our own. That doesn't mean I want anybody fired. It does mean I wish they would explore creative-- or even not so creative-- solutions to compensate somewhat for our obvious offensive issues. We have playmakers-- find ways to use them effectively. And let the QB throw.

These dudes can't execute the simplest football plays...and you want them to get "creative"?

They got creative against Florida on the 4th down play...and the dude fumbled it through the end zone

I like this but man how much better would the defense look,if the offense would improve as much as they have. No super star's on D, but greatly improved. Offense lacking on creating plays and utilizing the best talent.

agreed. one in particular, find some ways to get Chandler in space, and increase his touches. he's the closest thing we have to a difference maker on offense.

Agree. Chandler, JJ and Callaway should all get more touches. JG and the WRs need to get in rhythm. Now's the time to open things up, so we can have a passing game by November.

So an inexperienced TE who's not one of our playmakers fumbled the ball reaching for the goal line, so the coaches shouldn't try to be creative? I don't follow the logic.
yeah.

i think that's just a learning opportunity.

something happens when not so good teams find themselves in positions to do well against good teams, they press.

he didn't have to stretch that play out like he did...the goal was to get the 1st down. mission accomplished, take your W. last week Ark did it against Bama, runner is trying to get in the enzone, stretches the ball, and fumbles....

happens all the time. i'm all for guys giving effor and making a play. but it's the situational awareness that the not so good teams sometimes lack, and make good plays go bad. like the guy that breaks one tackle, then two, then is getting gang tackled and you're just screaming "just go down, don't fumble"...and then he fumbles. happened to us against aTm a couple years ago too.

it's just football. but you generally don't see good/great teams do those types of things to themselves.

yep. and we don't have to go all Air Raid. but attempts in the teens isn't going to cut it.

and i think Callaway will get his targets. he's probably the most dependable of the bunch.

Yes. When things aren't working one way, I like to try different things instead of doing the same thing over and over and hoping for different results. Einstein had a theory on that.
and i think they can do different things, while still staying true to their core philsophy. they don't have to "change it" per se, as much as emphasize and prioritize things differently....

i've been on the bandwaggon that says this season is about development and getting good at what we do, and what we're gonna do.

that doesnt' mean that you can't put players in a better position to win individual battles and have opportunities to succeed. i expect at some point to see better effort put in to match up planning....and attempting to exploit whatever weaknesses an opponent presents and what match ups you can create to give us a chance. and play calling to that.

if this team is doing the work, then they should get hte reward of the coaches doing everything in their power to give them whatever advantage they might have, miniscule as it may be.

losing just isn't fun. for anyone...including the players.

i don't care if Chandler gets more carries.

in fact, i'm not sure he should.

he should, get more touches. i think finding more creative ways to get him in to space is something to key on. not sure it has to be by lining up behind or beside JG and taking a hand off.

i think there's some lessons you can learn from Carolina in how they utilize Mcaffery and New Orleans in how the use Kamara. as of right now, he's the closest thing we have to a difference maker, and he needs 20 touches a game....at least.

I agree with this. Generally, though, if you can get him at least 20 touches, you are going to have to give him more than 5 carries (as he got at UGA). But I was screaming after the UF game that they didn't get him in space any.

I texted some UT friends last night while watching the Cowboys game. Both offenses struggled to score TD's. But, in the Cowboys' one series where they scored a TD, they ran a bunch of misdirection plays. The Cowboys OL is good (not as great as it has been), but the Texans' front 7 is good. That's what you do with a weak OL.

that didn't bother me. i was pretty torn. i did a lot to talk myself in to the notion that he'd be good here. and there was plenty to point to to be honest.

i just thought Tennessee wasn't a good fit for him. i don't think he's an elite recruiter. but at FL, it makes more sense given the history he has there, and the talent pool he'd be in, where he'd be able to get high quality players w/out a ton of effort.

to be good here, we do need a relentless recruiter...that was the main thing for me. i know he's a good offensive mind, i was sold on his ability to coach qb's. i just felt like he'd need someone else to be able to get them here.

Bingo.

Time to make Chandler a bell cow back and give him 85% of the carries.
dunno if he has to get 85% of the carries. he needs to be on the field 85% of the time and get touches. lots of them. line him up wide, in the slot, behind center, behind/beside JG.......

and i do think Banks should get more carries. provided he's eanred the trust to not put it on the ground. London and Jordan can spell.

We don't have a lot of playmakers, but we do have enough to beat some teams-- and compete with others. It would be more fun to watch the Vols if they'd move on from the run-run-pass-punt offense. Unleash the QB, let the playmakers make plays and see how that works.
not to be a total contrarian, but would it really be better if it was pass, pass, pass, punt?

lol.

I get what they want to do and I get that they thought they could do it. A lot of us thought they'd be able to do it better than they have. But five games in, it's clear that they're going to have to adapt the offense if we're going to win some SEC games. Changing a few things is worth a try.
