I don’t give a damn about Mays hitting him. Keep your head up. What pisses me off is nobody on the team wants to take up for their teammate who just got leveled. No heart

That's a good point. Sometimes those hits are just guys looking for a cheap shot, and sometimes they are retaliation for something else.

Hard to tell sometimes, but I don't see our guys retaliating much.

Using the logic used when JG got hit in the UF game, nobody took up for Johnson because they don't like him. Just trying to be consistent here.

I just wonder even though it may have been merited being fired after dobbs senior year... how the job would’ve been perceived nationally? I wonder what our candidate pull would look like. You know the media would’ve spun it like we just fired a reasonably successful coach based on his records.

It would have been an abstract disaster. The new coach would have inherited a team nobody publicly could comprehend is Jones’ fault for being so bad, they would’ve had a crap first year and fans would be irate and lamenting over firing Jones and wishing we had never fired him.

was just taking some of pruitt's comments about "these players have been thru a lot of negativity the past few years" in to some more detail. talked about how a lot of the players had to make up for a lot of Jones' shortcomings, and not jusut on the field. spent some decent time talking about the times when Jones bailed on post game press conferences and left it up to players to field questions. talked about there being a lot more to why some of these players are the way they are than just the football part. and how that translates for Pruitt, trying to build this back up. just a bigger job than most of us know, and that many of us as fans just sometimes "forget" all those trials and tribulations a lot of these players have been thru.

talked about how a player handles that...you're winless in the conference, you're embarrassed, you're battered and bruised, and now you gotta field questions on the "state of the program" cause you're coach didn't or isn't there to do so.

said he doesn't really believe in "moral victories' here, but was encouraged by the fact that pruitt is not only aware of it, but acknowledges it, and why it's a good thing we saw what we saw post game Saturday.

Butch was such a pu say

You're taking two reference points and inserting your own narrative (by assuming the feelings of 18-20yo's btw) to connect them. You could be right. But understand the margin for error is big, and the slope to that logic is slippery.

Edit-- I gotchu. I read that too quickly to realize we're likely on the same side there..

That’s not “doing work” that’s a cheap shot. He had like 3 of those during the game.
They’ll call those against Florida. Makes me sick. Between Florida’s late hits and defensive pass interferences not called against us and then late hits by Mays and a sure targeting when Georgia’s safety hit Palmer in the face mask in the 3rd quarter, I realized Tennessee will have to beat the opponent and officiating to get back to relevance.

A few interesting stats so far this season:

Running Back by committee:

Jordan (63 car, 258 yds, 4.1 ypc, 2 TDs)
Banks (41 car, 161 yds, 3.9 ypc, 3 TDs)
Chandler (40 car, 247 yds, 6.2 ypc, 1 TD)
London (36 car, 205 yds, 5.7 ypc, 3 TDs)

Four Different Pass Catchers have caught balls of 50+ yards (we had only 4 total plays of 50+ yards all of last season): Palmer, Callaway, Pope, Murphy.

Sophomore Palmer Showing Flashes: Josh Palmer is averaging 25 yards per reception, with 8 total catches. He's also averaging 7.8 yards per carry on 4 end-around rushes. He's emerging as the Vols greatest big play threat.

Guarantano Showing Improvement:

Last year Guarantano played in 9 games, tallying 997 yards on 86/139 passing, with 4 TDs and 2 Int, and a 7.2 avg/p.

This year, after only 5 games Guarantano is already at 801 yards on 59/93 passing, with 4 TDs and 2 Int, and a 8.6 avg/p.

His completion percentage is up a tick from 62% to 63% so far this season as well.

Jucos Leading the Way in the Defensive Trenches: Emmit Gooden leads the Vols with 4 TFL, and Alexis Johnson is T-2 with 3 TFL.

Darrell Taylor Coming Alive: R-Jr Darrell Taylor's stat line is looking better after the Georgia game, he now has with 3 Sacks and 2 FF on the season.

Linebackers Lead in Tackles: Junior linebackers Daniel Bituli and Darrin Kirkland Jr. lead the Vols in tackles with 26 and 23 respectively. Surprising Sophmore Will Ignont has tallied 18 tackles and is third in the LB group.

Punter U: Joe Doyle is averaging 42.44 yards per punt on 25 attempts, with 9 fair catches, 11 inside the 20, and 5 punts of 50+ yards.

Steady Kicking: Cimaglia is 4/4 of FGs and has made all his XP so far this season.

Do you know how many freshmen we've played so far this season?

It's called playing through the whistle. He didn't go low, he didn't throw hands. We want a tough team, that's what tough teams do.

This board has a hard on for hating Cade Mays ever since the "F Tennessee" video and flip. Go ahead and @ me.

Nah, some of us have high character expectations and prefer winning the right way. Then there are others who maybe know him from his years of playing in east Tennessee or on a personal level and know first hand exactly what kind of person he isn't.

Perfect fit in the Georgia Smart system. I for one am glad he isn't a Vol. I'd have a hard time defending his on-field play.
