Good effort, mainly by defense, but still missing tackles. Guarantano let a RB get blown up cause he can't see apparently and still holds the ball for a while.

I think Chryst needs a chance in my opinion, but doesn't look like he'll get it.

I don't think we saw "Major" improvements but there were some. The biggest one is I never felt that our players gave in and stopped playing with effort.
This is what I seen yesterday as well. A lesser coached team(last year's squad)packs it up after that fumble return by Nauta. It was nice to see them grit their teeth and keep fighting. Taylor had himself a game.

3rs quarter showed that Helton is holding this team back. Throw the ball. What, are you afraid we're gonna lose if we throw it? Newsflash, you are losing already. Go down field, get your playmakers on the preimeter and quit trying to run up the center's butt against high level SEC D linemen

I would imagine he's handcuffed a bit because of shaky OL play. Hard to go down field when you don't have time to go down field. That don't mean I don't agree with you at all. Of the entire staff, he was the one I was probably most excited about but I've been the most disappointed in him so far. He gets too predictable IMO but that goes back to the OL play. I wish he would go down field because it seems like when he does somebody is almost always open.

Keep fighting? I’m looking forward to the day, if it ever comes, when they start fighting. Yesterday surely wasn’t it.

In fairness KB I think some of the players put forth effort we've not seen previously in a while from them. Tuttle and Taylor come to mind, I actually saw Tuttle give a xxxt for the first time in two years. Our DLs overall played much better, our LBs took a step backwards IMO however it may have been due to a good UGA OL. Our OL played well in fits and spurts but were not consistent. Chandler is our only SEC level RB and he needs to stay on the field more not less. On the perimeter we have only two consistent playmakers, Callaway with a concussion protocol underway and Jernnings. We like to target these two guys about 4 or 5 total times per game in our passing offense. We love to toss it to our weakest unit on the field as much, our TEs who don't get much production. JJ one crucial third down target he catches to move the chains. Pope and Woods-Anderson each drop a crucial third down pass. Helton needs to do better forcing production with the playmakers he has than hoping he gets some from kids that are a coin flip whether they'll do something with the ball IMO. 50 to 65% of the touches on offense need to go to Chandler, Callaway, and Jennings until other players are as consistent as they are IMO.

As has been the problem all season the offense is well below the standard we need to win. When a team dominates time of possession like Georgia did yesterday not gonna be a great day for the defense as the games gets to the fourth quarter. Very pleased with what the defense done other than not getting that fumble on their first score played quite well. Georgia had the ball so long that defense finally wore down. If were going to win any SEC game must find an offense I think the D could pull us through if that side of the ball could do their part.

The only time I saw that was Georgias like 8min TD drive in the 4th quarter we had them in 3rd down situations multiple times and didn't stop them.

Edit: I saw safeties consistently being beat deep. Which should never happen. (Abernathy mainly)

Buchanan opens his hips too late and gets beat on every play as well. I don't understand how he is a starter.

Better than I thought. Take away the fumble score and the game would have been a lot closer. Georgia looked like they found another gear when needed or we just wore out.

Tennessee has played three opponents from Power 5 conferences.

They are 0-3 in those games.

Lost all three games by 26 points.

Averages:
Points per game: 15.6
Points given up per game: 41.6

These are my thoughts.

i personal think we are seeing major sign of improvement and we could be seeing are self in the top 15 in 2019 or 2020
In college it's a lot about QB play (Josh Dobbs is a smart and talented kid, who saved Jones' salary for a couple of yeas); I don't see it with the VOLS and the way it's looking I'd put in a 3rd string CB and let him take snaps for the remainder of 2018. As a VOL living in TX I can honestly say I've seen better 3A QBs then what's in the current Knoxville stable.

Thoughts?

Offense is offensive to watch and poorly coached. JG isn’t making the reeds quickly enough and he’s holding the ball too long. Helton doesn’t know what he’s doing.

Defense was slightly better but lets face the facts, GA stopped GA more than our defense did. UGA cleans up their mistakes they could have hung a 100 on us.

I agree 100%. For a loss, I saw some flashed of things to come. We fought, took some bad breaks, made some stupid mistakes, but ultimately gave GA a game. The score was much more lopsided than it could have been.

I saw some improvement on D. The team fought and kept things interesting into the 4th. Those are positive signs. But, the formation penalties on punts are concerning. We got off to yet another slow start. The offensive play calling was pretty awful. We lost Callaway to a concussion, most likely. There was plenty of negative too.

Based on today, I think the D will be fine, assuming we can recruit (a big if). The O is a train wreck. I sincerely hope something clicks during the off week and we see something I'm missing in the offensive game plan. Because right now, I don't think we could beat a good team with the starting O of the Patriots and our current game plan.
It really gets tiresome when a post finally gets around to "play calling, offensive game plan etc." there is really one thing to say about the offense, "THE O-LINE IS NOT GOOD" this effect to whole performance. One big one is it leaves the defense on the field too long.

If you run (just a little) you let your defense rest. Short series add up late ion games. This may be part of a large game strategy decided on by the whole staff.
I liken this to a boxer working on his opponent's body early in a fight, looking for dividends in the late rounds.

The play calling is also bad. It's way too predictable. I'm going to scream if I see us run up the middle on 3rd and long one more time. We don't throw into the flat or over the top nearly enough either. I wish we would see JG roll away from pressure from time to time too. The O line is certainly bad. But that's not the only problem.

OL played a little better. Still stunk, but some sign of hitting the person in front of them.

DL looked a little better.

Team fought and we're in the game in the 4th qtr.

I will take this as a small step in the right direction. There is something about Pruitt I like, and I do think he will win here. He has a long way to go with this program.

AU, USC and Vandy are not definite losses, but they are still unlikely. I don't see us beating a healthy KY or Mizzou team.
Auburn is on the road. Even when not at home they are better than Kentucky and Missouri. Auburn at home is a whole different animal, ask UGA and Bama. I don’t understand why so many people think that game is winnable. Is there a minuscule chance? Sure. Nothing more though. If that line is under 20 you better take Auburn.

Agreed. We need to open it up from the get go. We have shown that we do, in fact, have the pieces to be a competent offense. We have shown at times we can have a competent defense. We have to put those together. Do that and we have enough talent to beat anyone on our schedule outside of Auburn and Bama. Yes, fluke things can happpen in those games but I’m talking realistically.

We have to pass to set up the run. We aren’t good enough at run blocking to run first unfortunately.

Seems like the offensive team had no life, no confidence or concentration in the game until the xpt debacle. Suddenly it’s like they woke up or Ga completely quit but they played good for about 15 minutes. Then the gassed out.

The defense was plagued with some tough luck. They needed the strip sack to go for 6 the other way. I predict that will be the only strip sack fumble by the QB returned for a offensive TD beyond 10 yds in the SEC this yr.
