It is not our job...

It is not our job to fix things.

It is not our job to provide advice on how to fix things.

It is not our job to complain about how fast or slow things are getting fixed.

It is not our job to "apply pressure" or "let them know" or "put our foot down."

...

As fans we have one job, just the one: to support our team, to support our team fanatically.

Lot of folks in these boards seem to think we have other jobs. We don't.

We have just the one job.

I'm gonna do that. How about you?

I bet that sounded good in your head.

I agree but when something is obvious, I will likely state my opinion. I.E. QB play is,not good, we need to try the 2nd strong QB
Field goal kicker has a weak leg, let's try the 2nd string kicker on long distance kicks. Offensive Coordinator is lost, so let head coach make the calls then at seasons end hire new O C

Yeah, absolutely. I'm not saying let's don't discuss the team (seems some folks here are interpreting the OP that way, but that's not what it meant). Just saying let's don't criticize for the sake of criticism, don't hate, don't throw tomatos, and don't lecture the coaches on how they should be doing their jobs (very few of us are qualified to do that last one, anyway).

Seems some of us get so focused on discussing the team that we forget to support the team.

Using my powers of deduction:

Fans job is to fanatically support the team.
Fans are not doing their job.
No job, but still somehow getting by.
Fans must be on football welfare.

Tennessee fans don’t need much criticism to be honest. The fact we are still top in revenue and attendance despite suffering the worst 10 year stretch in the programs history is pretty amazing.

Tennessee fans deserve much better than what we’ve been getting, and I wouldn’t blame a fan for throwing in the towel. It’s largely been a one-sided relationship since 2008, and honestly, it was going downhill for the 6 years prior to that.

Most fans are fans because of loyalty and pride... and there is little to be proud of in recent memory. Related to loyalty, at some point there has to be reciprocation.

You're stupid! Fans have a right to complain, advise, whatever. How do you think changes are made? Who are you to tell anybody how to think and act?

I hear what you're saying.... You don't want to hear anyone's negativity.
But if everyone followed your wishes, this would be a very boring site to visit. Personally, I learn a lot by reading other fans' unfiltered perspective, no matter how critical they may seem to you.
In either case, we can all come together on gameday and support our beloved Tennessee Volunteers loudly and proudly.

Well spoken...and GREAT to hear!

So...this will be your last post, and furthermore...the board will no longer be peppered with your self-medicating drivel? You’ll just be traveling to each and EVERY game...spending real $...be a TRUE “fan”...right? Because...THAT$ what it is ALL really about...the $. TRUE support...AT THE EVENT...through ticket, University and Knoxville area (other areas when away games and neutral sites are designated) economic support...and merch...lots and LOTS of merch. Get that annual donation ready and make it BIG please. You BIG “fan” YOU!

Looking forward to not reading your pablum anymore! See ya!

Merriam-Webster gives two definitions. You picked the "disapproving" one. I prefer this one:

2 : a person who is extremely enthusiastic about and devoted to some interest or activity

I don't see anything in any of those definitions referring to watching football as a job.

It's a game and us fans are spectators. And its OK to talk about the results among ourselves on Freaks site.

I sincerely doubt most posters are following players and coaches around campus trying to give them advice.

Message board policing cracks me up. Do you realize how much money would be lost online if everyone kept their opinions themselves? Freak loves us know-nothing jackwagons arguing like we know what we're talking about. It's traffic. If we follow the OPs rules the site would be shut down.

Aside from being crude or abusive who cares, don't click it if it bothers you. I'll say what I always say to the message board police- take it up with Freak or don't read it

Exactly.

This site and other forums are going to get real boring if all we are allowed to do is type Go Big Orange!! at each other as the True Vol Fan Police seems to think we should do.

Although I agree with most of what you said, it's not my place to tell another fan how he/she should or shouldn't exercise their fandom
I’m too far gone to abandon the guys wearing orange. My first game in Neyalnd was 1965. I understand JP’s motivation here. CJP is showing that he is genuinely “working like heck” to get rid of the losing mentality that plagues this group of players. The instant gratification crowd can be annoying if you feel like things have a chance to move in a better direction. It’s too soon to bash him. It may be warranted a year from now, but at this stage it seems counterproductive.

On another subject , even though I’m a senior citizen, the Rick pickle has meaning and it makes me smile when I see your avatar.
