Pruitt said no injuries this week will limit his team this week. On Calbert, Pruitt said he sees him getting better and getting confidence. Noted that Calbert when they first go here was contemplating giving up football. But sees him getting better every day.
-Hubbs from today’s press conference.
By my count that means in the last year we have lost Boulware and Jack Jones, and Hall, Niehaus, and Calbert all thought about giving up football.

The night of the signing-day party, when Tyson Helton said we are going to line up and run the ball and play action, ALL of VolNation, and the fan base, were pumped out of our minds to hear that. We were so sick of seeing spread, shotgun, clap your hands...we were screaming for a straightforward attack. And now that Helton is giving us EXACTLY what we wanted, SOME are ready to run him out of town.

Not only are they trying to install a new offense, but a new identity/culture. This is who they want to be, who WE wanted them to be. Unfortunately, as my brother puts it, "you can't win the Kentucky Derby with a bunch of damn donkeys".

So, we have to ask ourselves: do we try something new to try and mask our flaws, with no guarantee of success, and get away from what we want this program and offense to be, going forward...
Or, do we stick to what we want to do, take our tail-kickings and lumps, to establish what Tennessee Football is going to be going forward, our foundation, our culture, lining up and running the football, and play-action...that's who Jeremy Pruitt and Tyson Helton want to be, and EXACTLY who we wanted them to be.
ALL of Volnation didn’t want a 3yards in a cloud of dust offense. Some of us wanted a modern offense that is balanced, efficient, creative, and unpredictable like what the Eagles or Rams run.

Boulware is going to make his second career start at LG this weekend. Dang

I’ve been thinking back to ‘13. I recall getting slap embarrassed in Oregon. That was a far better team than Florida, and we expected a rout. It was so bad though that I remember wondering if Butch could ever right the ship.

Well, the team rebounded and beat a very good SC team. I cried in the stands as I watched our players have something to celebrate because THEY deserved it. We all had hope after that.

All I’m looking for right now is something to give the team and the fans that same hope. We don’t know the future, but hope can go a long way. Play tough, rebound from mistakes, win a game you shouldn’t, be competitive, sign a good class, etc.

Anything for hope for these players who deserve it as much or more that that ‘13 team did.

Somewhere deep down I have hope that the team will get that one game this year. I also remember sitting in Neyland for the USCe game in ‘13 and I’ll admit I got a little teary eyed watching the team celebrate.

I was in Tiger Stadium in 2010 watching a team that went to double OT against UAB the previous week “win” against LSU.

So yeah, at least one game would be nice to give everyone some type of hope and certainly could happen regardless of how bad some of the other games may go.

Rumor floating around that Fromm torn his ACL at practice today. Probably BS, but had to spice it up in here.

the length of time to change the culture depends on two things:
1. the leaders making the change
2. the ones having to go thru the change--how many buy in, the eariler the better, and how many have to go that won't, and how logn does it take to weed them out?

i think for this staff, and this roster, it's probably 1-2 years max. just remember, culture is a big word, kind of like s&c and player development...none of it happens overnight. and some take longer than others, it's all situationally driven. in Kriby's case, that timeline was really short, because they had alot of the foundational stuff already done, and Kirby came in and provided the leadership needed to bridge the gap in just 2 years.

it's taken Mark Stoops 6 years to do it. situations are completely different, yet both are pretty impressive, relatively speaking.

I know that Stoops and UK are all the rage right now but they aren't a good comparison. UK is experiencing a perfect storm right now. After this year, they lose a ton of seniors. The UK people I know are all about enjoying this season while it lasts because it's not something anyone thinks will be sustainable. Stoops has done well but more than anything he's brought UK back to being what they've been for most of their program history which is a solid team that can occasionally have a good year.

We are now a golf and tennis school?? Right? Guys?

We need to add equestrian to round out our country club sports. It's a godblessed tragedy that the flagship university of the state that produces the 6th most horses doesn't have equestrian. Oddly enough, neither does UK.

Good post.

I ain't ever checking out on the Vols. The good Lord only gave me so many games to watch in my lifetime and I ain't missing any of them. I'd rather experience a bad day in orange than a good one wearing another other schools colors. Screw all this checking out stuff.
I usually hate what you post but this is the damn truth if I’ve ever read. Go big mf orange all day everyday

How come the thought of Fromm being hurt gives me a little confidence. The D has been playing better, maybe just maybe if the O doenst turn the ball over 6 times. The D can force Fields into a few mistakes

Maybe but all Fromm does is hand the ball off. He rarely tosses it for more than a few yards. He's capable but his role at UGA appears to be set at 'game manager.' Fields would likely have the same job: hand it off and let the RBs do the work. We can force some errors but I don't know that we have the athletes to truly punish a green QB.
