I was going to say this. He won’t stick around if it isn’t going well. Could very easily see him jumping ship to another program or resigning to take a DC job.
Nah, he's not a pussy like some of our fans and some of the players, he won't quit. He understands its going to take time to rebuild. Our fans want it NOW and are tired of waiting and that's understandable but it's also not reality. Reality is this is going to take a long time to do it properly.

So what's a reasonable progression for Pruitt or any coach for that matter? Should we see a winning record by year 3? Should we expect to leapfrog some SEC east team in the next 3 or four years to become 2nd worse instead of worst? What's reasonable in your mind? I don't mean this in a SA way. I'm generally curious as to how long it should take for Coach Pruitt to field a competitive SEC east team.

I'm not sure, we'll see. But I do know it's not four games.

We have waited over 10 years . What's a few more?

UT has been obtuse about seeing the signs. It was clear Kiffin was going to bolt, too, and UTAD was totally unprepared. No contingency plan whatsoever. That's where the snowball started.
I don't think they're that oblivious, I think it's always been a $ and cents thing. They have always looked at it from these least expense route. They know it didn't matter what "New" coach Tennessee trotted out there, the fans would support them. That's why they are one of the most profitable Ads in the country. I think they've spent all their fan equity this time around. If Pruitt fails, it will take a monumental hire to pull the fans back, similar to bringing Jonny home.

Overstreet on "being back" paraphrasing.
With were the lines are, we're probably years (guessing 2) away from being back, not months. 🤕

We don't have a choice unless we want to just hire a new coach every 3 years and blame the previous regime. At some point it comes down to jimmies and joes and execution. Yesterdays 1st half debacle was mostly execution. Hard to blame coaches for putting a 7 man front in front of JG and then blocks being missed. Or fumble after fumble. Maybe it's time to focus on the roster rebuild, let the man get his players in here and see what happens then. That takes time. JMO

I've not seen one poster calling for his head, not one. I think four games in is enough to start evaluating. Maybe not concluding one way or another or coming to any conclusion but definitely evaluating.

I’m sure this will be unpopular but here goes:

I’m a graduate in 03. I’ve had season tickets up until the last two years. Just some job stuff honestly not a referendum on Butch or Pruitt. I was there last night though. I have two kids 4, and 2. Both were upset I was leaving for the game and not going to dinner with them and mommy. I’ve been as rabid a fan as can be and seen great games and seen us get blown out. At this point however I’m going to record the games and spend time with my family. I’ll watch them at night once all are in bed or not if it’s another butt kicking. We have given a ton to this university. I was there down 33-6 last night still screaming the defense on in the third quarter. It’s just not a good use of my time or other fans time now. Some will say fair weather fan etc and Pruitt harped on the spring game but at this point it’s about enjoying time with the kids while they’re young. Hoping in a few years Pruitt has it turned around and I can take my kids as little ones and watch us beat Georgia and Florida etc. I still remember my first game October 7th 1989. I was about to turn 8 and we beat UGA. Sat in section D about row 42 and had to have my dad and uncle hold me up to see. It was so great. Can’t wait to do it with my littles in a few years when Pruitt has us top 10. Go Vols!

Why are you trying to tell people what reality is? Pretty sure myself and a few others tried telling you what the reality was before the season, and you proceeded to have a problem with it.

Hate Pennington but love when Overstreet is on the show breaking down the OL.
On the safety -
Not a single OL got on the other side of the L.O.S. in the attempt.
UF knew exactly where we were going with the run, their mlb took steps towards our left side before the snap because they had already discovered that we have no other option in those situations.

On scheming to compensate for the OL -
Basically, you can't. You can roll out etc; for a play or 2 but you can't do it an entire game or half,. whatever. Once you play your cards a couple of times, then their defense just compensates.
Bottom line, we need SEC talent on the line, not tricks to try to mask it.

So Overstreet isn’t blaming the loss on Helton either? Wow. Tell that to the “experts” on this board calling for his job.

The reality is that we are going to have to be patient with this coach and staff. There is no other choice.

I'm not saying Pruitt is perfect but I think it's pretty clear we need about 60 more SEC level players on the team to be competitive in this league. That takes time.

Have always thought he was a good coach and haven’t backed away from it.

I knew it would bite us in the ass when I saw how hard we were making fun of him after the Kentucky game.
Yep. It's not surprising, a lot of these people on here turned their nose up at Jimbo Fisher lol

Honestly, I have no idea on how he feels about Helton. He just said if you're going to run this play or that play, he didn't say those were the plays you should or shouldn't run. So IDK.
But I agree that we will have this staff for a while, so the best thing to do is hope they pan out.

And I'm not saying he sucks either. It also takes time to learn to be a head coach. I don't think Tennessee should be the training grounds for head coaches, but that's a subject for another day.

Ok, I'll give you time, if this season ends up like most expect, another winless SEC schedule, and his recruiting takes a hit, does that mean this is year zero?

I maintain his biggest challenge is recruiting given the septic tank stir we saw yesterday.

That’s because the guys in charge of the UT athletic dept for the last 15 years or so have been accountants and pencil pushers who’s lone qualification has been the ability to say “Yes, Mr. Haslam.” We’ve finally got a guy that actually knows something about sports as AD now, but he’s not going to undo 15 years of damage in one offseason.

I agree, but with the fans beginning to check out and no prospect of anything remotely like a good program in the near future, I just don’t see how you climb out of the hole.
