While I think Saban is obviously a great coach, I think his success now is more about out talenting everyone in college football. They have a $ystem in place that insures they get the best of the best. Then when they get them in their focus is 90% football and 10% college. They develop them NFL style. I don't think that changes with a change at the top. Maybe they drop off a bit but I don't see it. Heck, you and I could take it over and probably be successful as long as we didn't meddle with the system.

Then we're seeing the beginning of the end of CFB as we know it. Actually, we've probably already seen the beginning and are now approaching the middle. Total dominance at the top and media obsession with a select few programs and coaches makes following the sport far less enjoyable for most people. Diversity is good for the sport, and what's good for the sport is good for TV ratings. In the meantime, more yard work is getting done and more garages are getting cleaned on fall Saturdays.

I don’t think the media obsession with a few select programs is really that much worse than it ever was. For long periods in the history of the sport, especially before the BCS, the media was solely responsible for picking the national champion from approx 6-8 darlings.

There is probably some truth to this. I doubt anything changes until revenues start to drop due to lack of interest. I think we are kind of seeing it with attendance numbers drop. Other than their respective fan bases, who really wants to go watch their team get dismantled by Bama, OSU, Clemson, and Oklahoma every year? UGA is waiting in the batter box to join that crew.

I figure 3-4 straight years of a Bama/UGA SECCG and both going to the playoff no matter the outcome and apathy across not only the conference, but the nation, will at least start to set in.

It’s turning into a situation where college football simply isn’t fun anymore. I look forward to the season all year long and yesterday I found myself wanting to do yard work and run errands because I’m sick of seeing the same thing every weekend.

I think it's been headed that way for a while. Take the SEC as an example. The SEC would prefer a dominant team in the east to counter Bama. They would rather them not play during the regular season setting up a huge, possibly a 1 vs 2 matchup in the SEC championship game. If both teams come in undefeated there's a decent chance the loser still gets into the playoff. The SEC has this exactly where they want it with GA in the east and AL in the west with really no challenges in their own division.

I don't see anyone in the next 5 years competing with Bama in the west or GA in the east. It's sad but I think it could be a decade before we see anyone not named GA or Bama at the top.of the SEC. I think this is one reason we could not attract top tier coaches.

I just think Saban is looking to win one more so he can say that he’s the greatest coach of all time and has the trophies to show it.

I think he wants to win a few more and put the record squarely out of reach for anybody.

Tyler Byrd hasn't made a catch yet but he is making impact blocking on edge in run game. Seems like we make big runs on outside when he is out there. Small sample size but he did more reps this wk likely because of that ability
Yep and he played early in the game.

UGA is recruiting at a level that even Richt never approached.

I think a team or two can come up and compete but neither are going anywhere.

This may be his strongest team yet. There is no dip in sight

It does look like his strongest team. That's usually when you see drop-off-- after several years of peak success. If Bama goes undefeated this year, capped with a NC, that level of success will be hard to duplicate next year and even harder the year after. The more successful he is, the more difficult it will be to sustain and the more unrealistic the expectations will be.

It is infinitely more enjoyable to me than NFL. The problem in attendance is more the big screen TV and convenience, rather than lack of interest, at least from the people I know.

I think I've heard this before, like 8 times.

Yep. It gets old. Attendance is dropping, TV viewership is down and sports programs are losing their audience. Competition is fun to watch and anticipation is exciting. Dominance and predictability, notsomuch. I haven't watched SEC Nation or GameDay all year. Headed to the car wash instead and the place was packed. People were standing outside talking and enjoying the weather instead of watching the TV inside.

Not me. I couldn’t careless about my 70 inch being more convenient than going. Nothing will beat actually being at the game. I just don’t want to go watch UT get dismantled by the same teams every year. I’ll put it on the TV while cleaning the house or doing something constructive. Come at me if that is fair weather fandom, don’t care. It’s been a decade and I’m burned out seeing Bama win it every other year, us lose in devastating fashion every year to sh*tty FLA teams, and now UGA on a run.

TBH part of me hates that Alabama is as good as they are, but part of me is also kind of numb to them being so good.

I know 2018 isn't Tennessees year. I don't want it to be UGAs year either. So if it comes to pass that UA is dominant all year, I can live with it as long as they beat UGA in the SECCG and (hopefully) keeps them out of the tournament.

Don't get me wrong..... I hate UA and I hate UF with a passion. But I hate UGA with every fiber of my being.

The fact there were empty seats at the Auburn LSU game which was a top 15 matchup was crazy. Wouldn’t happen 10 years ago. Outside of one or 2 games a year football is just better on TV. Hopefully we can get back to being good again and all SEC games are packed. There is just really no point in attending a game against ETSU or UTEP for me personally.

I seriously may not even watch the Bama and UGA games this year. There will be nothing fun about that.

I'm not gonna bump the kids thread, but I guess he's a fan of awkward

One thing I like about our offense is it's clear this staff believes in the players over plays deal. When they need a play they are going to certain players. 3rd down they go to Callaway. Deep ball Callaway or Palmer. Pruitt said we need JJ more involved and we got him the ball more. Just need OL to get consistent. Sometimes they look good and others they just miss. Crazy part is seems like our backup lineman open up bigger holes
I predict we try and bait Florida on a double move with Callaway. Those curls have been automatic so far this year. Seems like the perfect time to do it .
